At face value, there isn't much in common between picking a wedding dress and a Florida gubernatorial candidate, other than that one's choices are almost guaranteed to be white. But a new web ad from the College Republican National Committee draws comparisons between the two.
The "Say Yes to the Candidate” ad, which spoofs TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress" TV show, is meant to make the group "culturally relevant" to younger and female voters, as The Wall Street Journal first reported Wednesday. The ad is a part of a nearly $1 million digital ad campaign across 16 states.
Though undecided voter and recent college graduate Brittany likes the "Rick Scott," which has a stylish tiered bottom and bedazzled waist, her mother prefers the ill-fitting and florid "Charlie Crist." Crist, a former Republican governor, is now running as a Democrat in the hope of unseating Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R).
The wedding dress saleswoman, however, warns the shoppers that the Crist version "comes with additional costs."
"There's over $2 billion in taxes, $3.6 billion in debt and 15 percent tuition increases," she says.
"But I'll be paying this off for the rest of my life," Brittany whines.
"We cannot let her walk out of the voting booth like that," Brittany's friend says.
Brittany ultimately defies her mother and chooses the "Rick Scott." The ad concludes with her wedding dress entourage clinking Champagne glasses to toast her decision.
HuffPost Pollster, which combines all publicly available polling data, shows that the race between Scott and Crist is virtually tied. Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/01/college-republicans-ad_n_5914994.html?utm_hp_ref=weird-news&ir=Weird+News
