How To Make A Keg From A Pumpkin And Throw The Best Party Of All Time

So you want to build a pumpkin keg, do you? You're on the right track -- desire is the first step. Skip the jack 'o lantern this year and give that gourd a purpose beyond looking pretty. Follow the steps below.

What you'll need: A large pumpkin, a spigot (like one of these), a marker, a basic pumpkin-carving kit or a serrated knife, and your favorite beer.

What to do: Use a marker to line the rim of the top of the pumpkin. Then, puncture the pumpkin with a serrated knife. Follow the ink with your knife and cut at an angle -- this'll make it easier to remove the top.

Next, scoop out the insides of the pumpkin with a large spoon. Remove both the seeds and the stringy pulp. You can save those seeds to roast -- they could serve as a fancy garnish for your drinks, or just as a tasty snack.

Pick a spot on your pumpkin to place the spigot. It should be about two-thirds of the way down from the top of your pumpkin: close enough to the bottom so that liquid will continue to funnel out when the tap starts getting low, but high enough up to make enough space to fit a glass under. Trace the circumference of the spigot with a pencil to ensure you cut a properly-sized hole. Then, hollow out the section of the wall inside of the pumpkin where you will place your spigot. This will make it easier to cut through. Cut through the pumpkin to make the hole.

Now it's time to insert your spigot. You may need to use a little elbow grease to work it through the hole. Once it's inserted, secure the spigot's washer on the inside of the pumpkin.

You're in the final stretch: Prop your pumpkin on an elevated surface -- this way you'll be able to easily pour beer from the spout into a glass. Pour you beer into the pumpkin and place its top back on. You are now ready to drink beer out of a pumpkin.
