Lisa McComb, Director of McDonald’s Media Relations, told The Huffington Post that they are aware of the Taco Bell trade-in. "I can confirm that some restaurants in Northeastern PA are conducting this offer, and there may be others in other parts of the country," she said. McComb added, "Our local markets are reminding our customers what lovin’ breakfast and freshly cooked Egg McMuffins prepared in our kitchens is all about."
The Taco Bell/McDonald's "Breakfast Wars" (as they're often called) first started in 2014, when Taco Bell aired commercials featuring real men named "Ronald McDonald" promoting Taco Bell's new breakfast menu. Taco Bell's most recent commercial, designed to promote its new biscuit taco, suggested that eating McDonald's breakfast was like living in a communist state.
McDonald's doesn't seem too worried by Taco Bell, as the company recently announced that it's trying out all-day breakfast in the San Diego area. But with Taco Bell delivery on the way, it'll be a tough draw to see which fast-food establishment comes out on top.
The Huffington Post has reached out to Taco Bell for comment and will update accordingly.
