If there's one thing classical music needs, it's more robots.
Critics have been bemoaning the death of orchestra for some time, and -- judging by the not too rosy reality faced by many of America's symphonies and philharmonics -- the general public is all but ready to toss the dirt on classical's coffin.
We suggest orchestra directors go the way of Hatsune Miku or Yoshiki and introduce some advanced technology into the mix. And why not robots? The folks at teamLab, a Japanese digital art collective that recently presented work at Japan's Pepper Tech Festival, have already begun experimenting with musically-savvy androids in a stunning project titled "The Light Orchestra."
