Approaching Shark Doesn't Spur Swimmers To Action -- At First

What predator?

Two people wading in the ocean off Destin, Florida, had a close encounter with an approaching shark -- and it took a while for them to react.

Despite warnings yelled from a highrise, the two casually head to shore as the shark chases a stingray, a viral video shows.

But as soon as the shark, identified in the clip as a hammerhead, thrashes the water while attacking the ray just yards away, the swimmers show urgency to exit the water.

The incident happened on Aug. 24, the description says.

Some commenters pointed out that hammerheads don't generally attack humans; National Geographic notes "few attacks have been recorded."

But wouldn't you hightail it out of the water anyway?
