Here's What Happens When You Eat The World's Hottest Chili Pepper

The Carolina Reaper, with its world-record 1,569,300 rating on the Scoville heat-measuring scale, is widely regarded as the world's hottest chili pepper. (For reference, a jalapeno maxes out at a rating of 8,000.)

It was created by Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Company, which advises you to "be very, very careful using this pepper. Those who don't fear the Reaper are fools," and explains that "If you are 'stupit' enough to eat this pepper whole you may wish to enter the doors of death willingly."

But what does it look like when you are "stupit" enough to eat one?

Sean Evans, host of the First We Feast series "Hot Ones" and international pepper aficionado Chili Klaus ate them in the video below to promote the series' second season, and it only takes a few minutes before their bodies seize up, reducing them to a flood of spasms, hiccups, tears, stammers, gasps of air, extreme red face and burps.

You can buy hot sauce made from the peppers or seeds for the peppers yourself at PuckerButt's online store, but if you ever encounter one in the flesh, Chili Klaus describes the best way to eat them (for minimum damage):

"Remember to chew it, because if you don't chew it very well, it will hurt in your stomach. It's very important that you chew at least 10 times in your mouth before you swallow it. Remember that. It's very important."

OK, Chili Klaus, you got it.
