James Gunn has developed a kind of mythic hero status within the Marvel community. Not only did he brilliantly bring the adventures of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord to life in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he also relates to and communicates with fans in a way few directors have done before.
He's one of us.
After rumors concerning the identity of Quill's long lost father -- supposedly a major plot point in the upcoming sequel -- swirled earlier this year, Gunn shot down theories that Bradley Cooper had spoiled anything in a bungled interview with MTV.
On Tuesday, Gunn made his final comment on those (false) rumors in a lengthy Facebook post and used the opportunity to put our spoiler culture on blast by asking readers, "Is this really what fandom wants to know?"

This isn't the first time Gunn has spoken directly to fans. On the one-year anniversary of the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy," the director penned a heartfelt note to those who made the film's debut one of the most successful in Marvel's history.
We don't know how Gunn will fare resisting our culture's penchant for spoiling anything and everything, but we commend him for trying.
