'MythBusters' Will End After 14 Explosive Seasons

Discovery's "MythBusters" is coming to an end after 14 seasons, Entertainment Weekly confirms. The show, which began in 2003, became an instant hit for its outrageous, explosive and educational science experiments

Co-stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman sat down with EW to talk about the end of the show and what they've got planned for the final season. The show will end in 2016 after roughly 25,000 hours of filming and 248 episodes.

"Every show has its bell curve. We’re cognizant of our ratings. It’s not like they were terrible but we could see them changing," said Savage. "Three or four years ago we started wondering more if we were going to be renewed. It’s not like it’s unexpected."

The show will go out on a high note after its 14th season, chock-full of -- what else -- explosives and experiments.

"We felt like we’ve had really strong material for the whole run. It’s been 14 years and its just time. We want to go out on a strong point," said Hyneman. "We’ve tried to go as deeply as possible into the things we’re doing, and gave them the respect and care they deserve."

Original cast members Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci left the show right before the 10th season began. No word on whether or not they will return for the final season.

Season 14 of "MythBusters" will begin Jan. 9 on Discovery.
