With temperatures soaring to 82 degrees, passersby became alarmed and called 911 saying that there was a lifeless child left alone in a car seat, according to TV station WABC.
Luz Kitty Mieles, the owner of the Honda CRV, was chagrinned to find EMTs hovering around her smashed driver-side window after rescuing her granddaughter's doll named Todd, WCBS reports.
Post by Luz Mieles.
There have been a spate of incidents in which parents and guardians have left children in improperly ventilated cars. In the most high-profile case, a Georgia father allegedly deliberately killed his son by leaving him in his vehicle for hours.
The medics apologized for their mistake. Mieles wants Hoboken to reimburse her for the damage.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated what day the doll was found in the car. It happened on Thursday, not Friday.
