That Bed's Too Small, Great Dane

We feel you, Great Dane.

You knew it wasn’t right from the start. The bed is too small, your big, doofy body too big. But what if it could work? What if maybe, just maybe, if you try hard enough, you could find happiness?

Great Dane, stop settling. Somewhere there’s a bed that’s right for you. This isn’t it.

Watch The Funniest Scene In 'Top Five'

The funniest part of Chris Rock's very funny "Top Five"? For our money, it's this scene featuring -- spoiler alert -- DMX. The rap star sings "Smile" in Rock's comedy, a moment of sublimity that ranks with any of the year's top moments. Watch below. "Top Five" is out now.

Bill Nye Has A 'Trashy' New Year's Resolution

Like his friend Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye isn't big on New Year's resolutions.

"The changes I want to make are generally part of a process rather than a sudden shift or toggle to a new position," the "Science Guy" told The Huffington Post in an email. "With that said, I have some goals for the new year."

One goal is to finish his next book.

"It’s about climate change and how we can become the Next Greatest Generation," Nye said in the email. "We can get to work the way people did during World War II."

Another of Nye's goals for 2015, believe it or not, is to pick up trash with his left hand.

Why would Nye want to do that? In order to "preserve the nominal cleanliness" of his right (dominant) hand, he said, adding, "No kidding."

As Nye went on to explain, "The left hand will encounter a good deal more germs and filth. The practice is both to reduce my chance of getting infected and to reduce the chance of my infecting people I meet. It’s both out of self-preservation and respect for others. Writ large, it may be an evolutionary urge to protect one’s own health and the health of the tribe."

Hmm. When it comes to thinking scientifically, you gotta hand it to Nye.

The 10 Best Night Sky Photos From The Department Of The Interior's Instagram Account

We already know the Department of the Interior's Instagram game is on point, but these gorgeous shots of the night sky are something else.

The agency manages more than 500 million acres of public lands across the country -- more than enough space to find a perfect starscape. It may be winter, but there's still plenty to explore during the season at one of America's 59 national parks.

Take a look at the top 10 night sky photos from the Interior Department's account that were posted over the past year, and follow along throughout 2015 @usinterior.

Dog Thought To Be Dead And Buried Is Now Safely Back In Owner's Arms

After an awful scare, this man was lucky to have his best friend back for the holidays.

William Leong of North Reading, Massachusetts, contacted police earlier this month, when he found the remains of an animal who resembled his dog, Kona, who had run away a few days prior, WCVB reported. The devastated owner buried what he believed was left of Kona, thinking his pet had been a victim of an animal attack.

But a few days later, Officer Greg Connolly spotted a pooch who matched Kona's description wandering his backyard, according to Yahoo News. Leong, who was immediately notified, rushed to see if the dog was his. The Massachusetts man was delighted to confirm that the mystery pooch was indeed his beloved Kona.

"It was the happiest day of my life," Leong said at a press conference, according to the Boston Globe. "I actually dropped to the ground. I was so shocked."

Kona disappeared when she slipped out of her leash after a walk, WCVB reported. When Leong had called the police to report the remains he found, even the authorities were convinced the dog had died and offered their condolences. So when Leong, who was in New York visiting family at the time, was called to a grooming shop to identify the dog, he was warned of the possibility that the animal might not have been Kona. The dedicated owner drove five hours back to Massachusetts to be delighted with a reunion that, Leong said, made for quite an unforgettable experience.

"It was a roller coaster of emotion," he told the Globe.

The Most Influential Acts Of Street Art Around The World This Year

Banksy may have cornered the street art chatter in 2013, but this year was all about the many other artists claiming their spot in the limelight. From Los Angeles to Afghanistan, guerrilla artists across the world proved there's no public canvas quite like a wall. Below, 21 of our favorite tags from 2014.

1. Blu: This is the year the Italian street artist Blu wrapped up his massive transformation of a building in Rome, turning 48 windows into Sphynx-like faces.

2. ROA: ROA headed back to Europe this spring after a stint in New Zealand, to make this Italian building a little wilder.

3. Tellas: This Italian street artist took several days to carry off a hypnotic minimalist mural in the city of Undine as part of the Homepage Street Art Festival.

4. Miss Van: Born in France and based in Barcelona, Miss Van specializes in portraits that seem conjured from a different era. Her baroque "poupées" (French for dolls) are often hidden behind masks, an affectation she believes gives them an androgynous appeal.

5. FAITH 47: We love this galloping unicorn by South African artist FAITH 47, which turns an otherwise ordinary wall in the village of Erriadh, on the Tunisian island of Djerba, into a dreamscape.

6. Djerbahood: The unicorn made up a larger project, Djerbahood, which brought together dozens of female artists from around the world to transform Erriadh.

7. Graffiti in Athens: The Greek city became a new graffiti capital, as artists confronted the changing economics that make for an abundance of abandoned buildings, and provocative art.

8. Kelburn Castle: Based in Scotland, the castle makes our list for the sad fact that its wild makeover is set to revert to plain old thirteenth century stonework next year.

9. Inti: This April, the Chilean graffiti artist Inti gave us all the gift we didn't know we badly needed: a giant Don Quixote mural in Quintanar de la Orden, Spain.

People look at a giant Don Quixote graffiti mural painted today by Chilean graffiti artist Inti on the wall of a building on April 5, 2014 in Quintanar de la Orden, Spain. Santiago Gonzalez runs the project "Construir un lugar mejor sin destruir lo que tenemos" or "Building a better place without destroying that we have" to regenerate urban landscapes with street art and to give a boost to his region's cultural attractions. Organizers claim it is the largest Don Quixote painting in the world. (Photo by Pablo Blazquez Dominguez/Getty Images)

10. Shamsia Hassani: This female artist emerged as one of the unlikeliest street art stars of the year. A fine arts lecturer of Afghani descent, Hassani tags the streets of Kabul with her signature depictions of creative women.

11. Skidrow: The artist known as Skidrow turned out some of the simplest and most profound work we've seen all year. Working anonymously, he paints poignant backdrops behind the homeless people who make their home on the streets of Los Angeles.

12. Small Business Saturday Street Art: To promote the "shop small" message of Small Business Saturday, Chicago-based street artist Hebru Brantley enlisted artists across the country to design appropriate graffiti. Our favorites turned up in Washington D.C. and Miami, murals featuring a girl and a boy respectively, both exuberant in their own ways.

13. Women Are Heroes: Since 2007, French street artist JR has turned the concept of the male gaze on its head with his global public project "Women are Heroes," pasting images of real women's faces and eyes on train cars and abandoned buildings around the world.

14. Strook: This spring, the Belgium-based artist Stefaan De Croock, aka Strook, highlighted the beauty of basic materials with his short film "Wood & Paint," chronicling a romance between recycled wood and spray paint.

15. Boa Mistura: The Madrid-based artist collective proved the power of a bright coat of paint when the team tackled more than 30 buildings off a highway in the working class town of Querétaro, México. This was technically a 2013 moment, but their work lived on into 2014.

16. Street Stories: One of the year's most compelling campaigns, "Street Stories" tasked U.K.-based artists with telling the actual stories of homeless British teens.

17. Leon Keer: Keer spoke directly to our inner 10-year-old with "Space Invaders," a 3D take on the classic Atari video game.

18. Splash: A collaboration between Fin DAC and Angelina Christina, "Splash" aptly added a splash of female badassery to the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

19. Maya Hayuk: The legendary Bowery Wall got a fresh coat of paint this year when Maya Hayuk, a Brooklyn-based artist known for her Ukrainian craft-inspired prints, was tapped to put her mark on a site that's hosted the work of a notably male crew for years now, including Keith Haring, Os Gemeos, Kenny Scharf and Shepard Fairey.

This Half-Male, Half-Female Bird Has Very Peculiar Plumage

You don't have to be an ornithologist to know that red northern cardinals are male and brownish-gray ones are female.

But what about a Cardinalis cardinalis that sports red feathers on one side of its body and brownish-gray feathers on the other? Why, that cardinal is half-male and half-female, of course--and just such a rare bird has been observed in northwestern Illinois.

An example of a phenomenon biologists call bilateral gyandromorphism, the bird was observed for more than 40 days between Dec. 2008 and March 2010--and it certainly caught the attention of the scientists who spotted it.

"It was amazing when the bird was viewed from one side it appeared as a normal male and from the opposite side it appeared as a normal female," Dr. Brian D. Peer, a professor of biology at Western Illinois University in Macomb and one of the scientists, told The Huffington Post in an email. "It wasn't until you could see both halves of the bird did you realize it was a truly unique individual."

If the bird looked weird, it also exhibited weird behavior. As Peer and his collaborator wrote in a paper published in the Dec. 2014 edition of the Wilson Journal of Ornithology, it was never heard vocalizing or seen to pair up with another cardinal.

"It never acted like a typical male or typical female cardinal," Peer said in the email.

The bird's bizarre plumage arose because its sex chromosomes didn't segregate properly after fertilization, according to New Scientist.

The researchers tried to capture the cardinal to take DNA samples but were unable to do so, Peer said in the email. However, research on chickens has shown that gyandromorphs tend to have mostly male cells in the half of the body with male plumage and mostly female cells in the half with female plumage.

Bilateral dimorphism has also been observed in butterflies, crustaceans, and other birds, according to Science magazine.

Peer said there has been at least one other published account of a bilateral gyandromorph cardinal but its plumage was reversed--male on the right side and female on the left.

Weird.

Whoops, Play-Doh Toy Looks Exactly Like A Penis (PHOTOS)

Fun to play with?

Hasbro Inc. has been fielding a host of complaints this holiday season from parents horrified to find that the “extruder tool” found in the Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset looks exactly like a penis.

The phallic toy first gained publicity in November, but a new wave of comments began appearing on the Play-Doh Facebook page post-Christmas, after kids nationwide had opened their gifts. Staff is reportedly deleting photos of the toy, but Uproxx screenshotted several comments, including one from a mom claiming the veiny-looking object “ruined Christmas.”

Some folks, though, seemed more amused than angry:

facebookpost

The extruder tool is meant to help decorate Play-Doh cakes, meaning that Play-Doh “frosting” is meant to be pushed out of the tip of the tool.

Hasbro spokeswoman Julie Duffy told The Huffington Post via email that the company has “heard some consumer feedback about the extruder tool” and is “in the process of updating future Play-Doh products with a different tool.” She also noted that anyone who wants a replacement tool can contact Hasbro at 800-327-8264.

On the upside, the toy has received mostly positive reviews on Amazon, though one reviewer complains that the extruder tool is a “pain to clean” and sometimes ends up with clay stuck inside that “you have to blow out with your mouth.”

We wonder if you can use this tool to make a dolphin on wheels!

'Very Strong Evidence' Of HIV Transmission During Porn Shoot

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California public health officials have issued an alert after finding "very strong evidence" that an adult film actor became infected with HIV as a result of unprotected sex on an out-of-state film shoot.

The Department of Public Health said Monday that the male actor tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS after engaging in unprotected sex with several other male actors during two separate film shoots. He had tested negative before the shoot. "During the second film shoot, he had symptoms of a viral infection," the alert states. "The actor went to a clinic and had another blood test that showed he had recently become infected with HIV."

One actor from the second shoot has since tested positive for HIV. According to the health department, lab results indicate the first actor who tested positive "probably transmitted" HIV to the second.

A health department official was unable to immediately release further details regarding the lab testing and investigation. The alert notes that very early in an HIV infection, the test can be negative "even though the actor really does have HIV."

"In this case, the actor and production company thought he was HIV-negative during filming," the alert states. "Shortly after his negative test, HIV levels in his body rose rapidly to where he could infect other actors through unprotected sex.

A California-based trade group for the adult film industry declined to comment.

A health department official declined to release any information regarding when the transmission had taken place or which company it involved, citing privacy restrictions, but said the apparent transmission occurred in Nevada.

"It's happened before, it's happened now, and it will happen in the future," said Michael Weinstein, president of the Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation. "The big lie the industry has been saying all these years, there are no on-set transmissions, has been proven to be untrue."

The foundation championed an ordinance adopted by Los Angeles County voters in 2012 requiring actors in pornographic films to use condoms. The porn industry has fought the ordinance, saying having actors use condoms would interfere with a film's fantasy element by subjecting viewers to real-world concerns like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

A federal appeals court recently ruled the ordinance does not violate First Amendment rights.

Several porn companies have moved shoots out of the county over the last two years in response to the ordinance. The number of porn filmmakers applying for permits in LA County has declined sharply, from 485 in 2012 to 40 in 2013.

The last confirmed on-set HIV infection was in 2004. After that, the porn industry adopted monthly testing for a range of STDs. Last year, the industry increased testing to every 14 days after a woman who performs under the name Cameron Bay contracted HIV. Her diagnosis triggered a moratorium on adult film production until all performers who worked with her were medically cleared.

Andrea Espinosa Smiles For Mugshot After Allegedly Punching Cop

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

An Idaho woman flashed her pearly whites for her mugshot early Saturday morning, despite racking up several felony charges for allegedly punching a Boise Police officer in the face. Andrea Espinosa, 25, was booked on suspicion of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest after she tried to flee in a stranger's car, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Her wild night started at 3:45 a.m., when a man flagged down a patrol car. He told police that he pulled over to see if Espinosa was OK, and claimed that she jumped in his vehicle and told him to drive. She declined, and when the man got out and flagged down cops, she got in the driver's seat and allegedly tried to flee.

One officer who tried to pull her out of the vehicle was met with a punch in the face and a knee to the thigh, KTVB reports. Espinosa was reportedly "confused and inconsistent" when officers interviewed her.

She was booked into the Ada County Jail, where she grinned for the sheriff's camera. If she was arrested just two days earlier -- on Christmas -- she would have been greeted with a candy cane by Ada County Sheriff's deputies, according to their Facebook page.

Argentina President, Christina Kirchner, Has Bizarre Werewolf Mishap

Reports that the president of Argentina adopted a boy as her godson to prevent him from becoming a werewolf may have been greatly exaggerated.

On December 23, Argentine president Christina Kirchner adopted Yair Tawil, 21, as her godson, as part of a tradition that has been performed in the country for more than 100 years.

Tradition dictates that the president adopts the seventh son or daughter of family as a godchild. That child gets a medal and education up to the age of 21.

Until 2009, the tradition was only available to Catholics, but Tawil was the first Jewish person to be adopted by the Argentine president, according to the Independent.

But what Kirchner described as a "magical moment" on Twitter has become a hairy situation thanks to some confusion.

It seems there is another Argentine tradition called "El Lobison"; a belief that a family's seventh son turns into a werewolf starting on the first Friday after the boy's 13th birthday, and every full moon thereafter, the New York Daily News.

The belief was allegedly so widespread in the 19th century that parents would kill the seventh son to prevent a future teenage werewolf.

It's a great story, but the two customs are not related, according to Argentine historian Daniel Balmaceda.

“The local myth of the lobison is not in any way connected to the custom that began over 100 years ago by which every seventh son (or seventh daughter) born in Argentina becomes godchild to the president,” Balmaceda told the Guardian.

That detail didn't stop the Independent from blending the two separate customs and reporting that Kirchner adopted Tawil to prevent him from becoming a werewolf.

Other media outlets, including UPI.com, the New York Daily News, BuzzFeed and HuffPost UK reported that the president adopted Tamir specifically to keep him from becoming a werewolf.

It's probably not true, but Kirchner has not commented on the werewolf confusion, and neither has any werewolf.

STOP THE PRESSES: Record Set For World's Largest Paper Wad

A state agency in Minnesota is claiming the world record for largest ball of paper.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the ball measures 9 feet 7 inches tall and 32.2 feet in circumference. The 426-pound ball was displayed at the Minnesota State Fair to show how much recyclable paper state residents throw away every 30 seconds.

But anyone who missed seeing the ball at the fair is out of luck: The agency recycled it, turning it into cardboard for cereal boxes.

Spokeswoman Taylor Holland said Monday that the agency got confirmation last week from Guinness World Records. There wasn't a previous record.

The ball was built around a cardboard frame and held together with paper netting. In keeping with Guinness guidelines, no adhesives or tape was used.

Failed Pizza Shop Robber Busted By Toilet Paper Roll: Cops

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Police say they matched a would-be pizza shop robber to a roll of toilet paper in his Pennsylvania home.

Uniontown police say 29-year-old Eric Frey tried to rob Michael Maria's Pizza on Saturday by handing an employee a note written on toilet paper that read: "I have a gun. Give me $300."

Police arrived before Frey could leave because an employee hit a panic button.

Frey told officers he was forced to commit the robbery by a large, bearded man with a gun who accosted him in a nearby alley.

But police say a search of Frey's apartment wiped out that explanation: That's where they say they found a newly opened roll of toilet paper with the pen impression from Frey's note on an outer sheet.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Frey.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Frey.

Police were called and Harris allegedly got into a tussle in the parking lot over his Swiss Army knife on his belt loop.
