Toddler's Trick Shot Snuffs Out A Candle But Ignites Trash Talk

It’s just a candle now. But it could be an opposing defender someday.

Watch this toddler snuff out a candle with a soccer-ball kick (via a digital assist, perhaps?), and then administer a burn in the form of trash talk.

He’s adorably merciless.

Lights out.

Japanese Woman Makes Delicious Dishes In The Tiniest Portions Possible

A Japanese woman is on a quest to prove good meals do come in small packages.

Yukiko Hasada buys regular-sized ingredients at her local grocery store and turns them into teeny-tiny gourmet meals that she features on her YouTube channel, Bistro Miniature.

How to make mini food!

A post shared by Bistro Miniature (@bistro_miniature) on

Hasada has whipped up a variety of dishes including chocolate gateau and itsy-bitsy bowls of Japanese ramen. She’s even cooked cod in white wine sauce.

Hasada was inspired to become a mini food chef when she came across a miniature kitchen set.

That was two years ago. Since then, she’s gotten a taste of fame thanks to the popularity of her instructional cooking videos, some of which have surpassed 1.5 million views.

“I mainly get my inspiration from real dishes that I cook for my family,” she told Barcroft TV. “I like to come up with the dishes that complement the cuteness of mini utensils.”

Hasada carves down everyday ingredients and then cooks them on a doll-sized kitchen stove.

Her most difficult creation has been the soft-boiled egg, created for a tiny serving of chow mein.

“Using the right temperature is essential when making soft-boiled eggs,” she told Barcroft. “The most difficult part is definitely how to control the fire power since I can only use blocks of solid fuel in my mini stove.”

Tiny food creations like Hasada’s are influenced by the Japanese fascination with things that are “kawaii” or cute, according to Makiko Sano, a London-based expert on Japanese food and cooking.

“Japanese people love ‘kawaii’ things, and things that are very small and delicate: the younger people in Japan use it to describe nearly everything they see,” she told The Telegraph. “Things like these videos are a hobby to people in Japan, and sometimes it gives them the feeling that they are living out their small, fantasy world.”

But Hasada sees big things in her future, she told Barcroft, such as her own line of miniature cooking utensils.

John Oliver Updates Us On His Effective GoFCCYourself.com Campaign

During the May 7 episode of “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver introduced a website he created called GoFCCYourself.com. It directed users to the FCC website, where they could leave comments urging the FCC chairman to uphold net neutrality.

The campaign turned out to be a big success and more than a million people commented on the FCC website. But some comments were more legitimate than others.

Woman Carries Twins For Sister Who Had 9 Miscarriages

Melissa Kayser wanted to be a mom more than anything.

But after nine miscarriages, failed fertility treatments and in vitro fertilization, the 33-year-old Omaha, Nebraska, resident didn’t think motherhood was in the cards.

“I was devastated because you think as women we are literally born to do one thing and that’s to reproduce and when you can’t do that one thing you feel like a failure,” Kayser told InsideEdition.com.

Doctors suggested a surrogate might be the best option, but Kayser said she didn’t know if she “could emotionally handle another woman being able to carry my child.”

But her feelings changed when that other woman turned out to be her older sister, Lisa Auten, 35.

Auten offered to be the surrogate in a semi-serious way.

“It actually started as a joke. And it just kind of snowballed from there,” Auten told Omaha station KETV.

Kayser elaborated with a laugh: “She tries to make a joke out of everything and she said, ‘I’ll let you borrow my uterus,’ I can’t remember how she phrased it.”

Kayser took up Auten’s offer and had two of her embryos implanted in her sister. Auten carried the kids to term and gave birth to twin nieces Ashlynn and Tierney six weeks ago.

Before becoming her sister’s surrogate, Auten had never been married or pregnant. Although she enjoyed being pregnant, she said, she has no desire to be a parent herself.

“I have a connection to them, as they’re my nieces. I think that’s a fear of surrogacy, that you become overly attached,” Auten told KETV.

Although Kayser is the biological mom, Auten is listed as the mom on the birth certificate, in accordance with Nebraska law.

When the girls reach six months of age, Auten will officially relinquish parenting rights so that Kayser can “adopt” her own kids.

Despite the bureaucracy, Kayser remains grateful to her big sister.

“Every day I am in awe. You hear women say you don’t really know love until you have children. They really do complete me,” Kayser told “Inside Edition.” “There’s never any words that I can say to thank her for what she did. She gave up a year of her life so that we could have a family. I could never repay.”

This Stoic Toddler Takes His Bounce House Time Very Seriously

The one thing that makes almost every kid grin from ear-to-ear is not that big of a deal to one very adult-seeming toddler.

A hilarious YouTube video featuring a stoic 2-year-old named Parker nonchalantly jumping in a bounce house has gone viral.

Todd Blass, Parker’s uncle, uploaded the video titled “I will never be as cool as my 2 year old nephew in a bounce house” on Sunday and it already has received over a million views.

“This child is more chill than I’ve ever been in my entire life,” said one YouTube commenter.

For real.

Jim Bakker: Making Fun Of Trump Is The 'Spirit Of The Antichrist'

The “spirit of the Antichrist” is alive and well and living inside people who dare to mock President Donald Trump, disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker said.

Bakker now sells survivalist food and gear to doomsday preppers on his “Jim Bakker Show.” In a clip from Thursday that was posted online by Right Wing Watch, he claimed there was a “hatred among peoples and this is satanic.”

Then he went full “Sleepy Hollow” on his audience:

“This is the White Horse of the Apocalypse. The White Horse of the Apocalypse is the first horse. It’s a horse of speech. It’s a horse of spirit. And the spirit of Antichrist is out now. This is what you’re seeing. You want to know what the Antichrist spirit looks like? That’s what’s going on in America. These people mocking the president, the words they use, the speech they use, that’s the spirit of Antichrist. That’s the spirit of hatred.”

Bakker had a popular ― and lucrative ― TV ministry in the 1980s, but resigned in shame after a sex scandal. He eventually did five years in prison for fraud.

Donald Trump Tweeted 'We' And Started A Movement

Something amazing happened on Twitter on Saturday. The President of the United States, arguably one of the most controversial people on the platform, tweeted one word with two letters and so much power.

Donald Trump, or a White House staffer representing Trump, typed “We,” then hit the tweet button, sending the word to the president’s 29 million followers.

The series of events that happened next unraveled quickly. According to BuzzFeed, the operator of POTUS’ Twitter account deleted the tweet within minutes, but not before it was memorialized by the quick-thinking people of Twitter.

First, people tweeted out snarky remarks about the two-letter tweet, as people have been known to do when someone notable fumbles on Twitter.

Then people started completing the one-word prompt with music lyrics.

Later, people began to rally behind Trump’s “We” tweet, which by then had long been deleted and replaced with a rather boring promotional tweet about the president’s interview with Fox News’ Judge Jeanine.

In a rare moment of unity, people began using the #We hashtag to speak about what they want for their country. Most tweets targeted the president for a variety of reasons ― missing tax returns, potential ties to Russia, healthcare ― but some contained simple requests for the president to take care of and protect the country the best he can.

Canada Unveils 'Dinosaur Mummy' Found With Skin And Gut Contents Intact

After 110-million years encased in stone, an impeccably preserved, dragon-like dinosaur has been unveiled by paleontologists in Canada and it’s unlike anything they’ve seen before.

The remains of an armor-plated nodosaur, a 3,000-pound plant-eating horned creature, went on display in Alberta on Friday after its accidental discovery by miners nearly six years ago, National Geographic reported.

“We don’t just have a skeleton,” Caleb Brown, a postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology where the fossil went on display, told the magazine. “We have a dinosaur as it would have been.”

Researchers say the fossil is remarkable, with it being a never-before-seen species of nodosaur, as well as the oldest dinosaur ever found in Alberta. It’s preserved skin and gut contents are also providing invaluable clues on these extinct creatures.

“I’ve been calling this one the Rosetta Stone for armor,” Donald Henderson, curator of dinosaurs at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, told National Geographic.

“It’s basically a dinosaur mummy ― it really is exceptional,” Don Brinkman, director of preservation and research, also told The New York Times.

For the last five years, researchers have spent more than 7,000 hours chiseling away at the fossil’s surrounding rock to expose the incredible creature.

The researchers have had their share of ups and downs, with the fossil breaking into pieces upon its removal from Alberta’s Millennium Mine in 2011.

The 15,000-pound, plaster-covered block it was encased in is seen shattering during a video uploaded to YouTube by Suncor Energy, which owns the mine.

“One of the good things about this, believe it or not, is because it’s in smaller pieces it will make preparation go a little faster,” Darren Tanke, a paleo technician with the Royal Tyrrell Museum, says in the video.

“This is restorable. Everything broke cleanly and in big pieces,” he adds. “It’s unfortunate that this happened but this is restorable.”

South Korea Has A New President, But His Hot Bodyguard Is Stealing The Show

After a year-long scandal surrounding South Korea’s former president, the country finally swore in their new leader, Moon Jae-in, this week. Moon represents a turning point for the country whose government was embroiled in a high-profile corruption scandal.

And that’s all well and good, but there’s someone in the new president’s camp who is causing a different type of scandal.

His name is Choi Young-jae, according to the Korea Times, but you may know him on Twitter as the new South Korean president’s hot bodyguard.

Choi is said to be a part of President Moon’s “handsome brigade,” a term coined by Korean media and given to the group of apparently good-looking individuals who have been selected to be the “attractive public face of the new administration,” according to the Korea Times.

Even in the attractive presidential bunch, Choi’s smoldering good looks have captured the internet’s heart.

Twitter user Elena Yip, who was one of the first people to publicly praise the distractingly handsome bodyguard, even imagined a romantic storyline for Choi that would fit right into passionate Korean drama TV.

The way he’s always photographed staring sternly into the crowd makes for the perfect inspiration for fan fiction.

After pictures of Choi went viral this week, South Korean blog AllKpop.com did the internet a favor and unleashed even more photos of the now-famous bodyguard.

No one seemed to mind the additional eye-candy, but, sadly, that’s all that Choi can ever be for most people. Korea’s Special Warfare Command told the Korea Times that Choi is “‘unfortunately’ married and has two daughters.”

Fans of Moon’s bodyguard will just have to find other ways to get the man’s attention.

In addition to protecting one of South Korea’s most prized assets, Choi is also doing the world another favor: He’s obliterating the stereotype that Asian men are weak and unattractive.

Thank you, President Moon, for introducing one of your finest protectors to the internet. Our collective thirst thanks you.

Experts Review 8 Weird Ways To Prevent Snoring

Is snoring keeping you up at night or driving your partner crazy? You’re not alone. Data from a longitudinal study published in 1993 found that about 44 percent of men and 28 percent of women snore habitually, so this problem is happening in bedrooms across the nation.

Snoring happens when the upper airway muscles relax and constrict air flow through the throat, forcing air through a small space and causing a vibration — think of the way a kazoo or saxophone makes noise. This sound can be annoying for others — and can also wake you up at night, leaving you feel sleepy and foggy-headed the next day. That’s why many people who suffer from snoring look to unusual remedies to make it stop.

One of those alternative treatments? Learning to play the didgeridoo, an instrument traditionally played by indigenous Australians. Because the wind instrument requires the player to practice “circular breathing” — breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth at the same time — it can strengthen the throat muscles and help prevent the upper airway muscles from relaxing too much at night, thereby reducing snoring. A 2006 study has even shown didgeridoo playing to have a positive impact on those who snore, reducing their daytime sleepiness and helping to prevent fewer nighttime disruptions to partners.

But there are many alternative options to prevent snoring — some doctor recommended, others highly questionable. If you’re curious about alternative treatments, we investigated some of the most unusual remedies that get passed around and tested nightly in bedrooms, and asked experts which ones work — and which ones definitely don’t.

It’s important to note that while in many cases snoring may be the result of allergies, a cold, excessive alcohol consumption or weight, it can also be a symptom of a more serious condition known as obstructive sleep apnea. This is characterized by sudden stops in breathing during sleep that can be very dangerous. So if you’re snoring consistently, you should get checked out. A proper diagnosis and personalized treatment will help to ensure you get a full, restful night’s sleep.

1. Sew a tennis ball to the back of a T-shirt

What the experts say: Doctor-approved

Research has consistently confirmed that sleeping on your back is likely to increase snoring, since it allows your tongue to relax and slide into the back of your throat, obstructing air flow. By sewing or duct taping a tennis ball to the back of a T-shirt and wearing it to bed, you force yourself to sleep on your side, since rolling onto your back would be extremely uncomfortable.

Dr. Robert Oexman, director of the Sleep to Live Institute, recommends trying the tennis ball trick for at least two weeks — enough time to retrain yourself to sleep on your side.

2. Smart Nora

What the experts say: Proceed with caution

When placed next to your bed, this egg-shaped smart device will detect the sounds of snoring and gently move your head during sleep using an inflatable, wirelessly connected pillow insert, allowing you to breathe easily without waking you entirely.

Sounds great, but does it work? Experts are mixed on this product, with Dr. James MacFarlane, a sleep specialist and assistant professor at the University of Toronto, recommending it as a non-invasive snoring solution. While New York-based dentist Dr. Edward Alvarez suggests that the repeated “microarousals” caused by moving the head around may reduce sleep quality and leave the user feeling tired the next morning.

3. Ujjayi breathing

What the experts say: Can’t hurt

This form of yogic breathing requires “inhaling slowly and slightly constricting the muscles of the throat, and using that constriction to exhale through the nose, generating a hissing sound,” explains yoga instructor Parinaz Samimi.

This “helps strengthen the throat muscles,” she says, improving nighttime air flow much like the didgeridoo. It’s harmless, so even if it doesn’t stop your snoring, it may help you to relax more during the day.

4. Compression socks

What the experts say: Proceed with caution

You know the tight socks you sometimes wear on long flights to prevent blood clots? Research from the University of Toronto in 2015 found that a small group of sleep apnea patients who wore compression socks to bed noted a 27 percent decrease disruptions in breathing when they wore the socks to bed over a two-week period. The research did not note a reduction in daytime sleepiness, however.

5. Tongue suction cup

What the experts say: Can’t hurt

Known more scientifically as a “tongue advancement device,” this gadget sticks to the tongue and pulls it toward the front of your mouth during sleep, bringing forward the muscles that may be obstructing your airway, according to Dr. Alvarez. “There is a possibility that this may work,” he says. “But it can be uncomfortable to use, and I don’t want to end up with a hickey on my tongue.”

6. Neti pot

What the experts say: Doctor-approved, but with a caveat

The neti pot, a teapot-like device used to pour a saline solution through the nasal passageway is another alternative. One thing to note about the Neti pot: Though it’s effective and relatively easy to use, it must be cleaned thoroughly with sterile, distilled, or boiled water that has been cooled to room temperature after every use. You can store previously boiled water in a sterile, closed container for up to 24 hours, according to the FDA. If not properly cleaned, a Neti pot can breed bacteria that can lead to infections, including the deadly “brain-eating amoeba.” With proper cleaning, though — never use unboiled tap water — nightly use is generally safe.

7. Electric shock

What the experts say: Skip it

No, we’re not talking about old-school electric shock therapy. There are modern-day devices — like the Hivox Stop Snoring Device — that are designed to send a gentle electric shock to the user if snoring is detected, which either negatively reinforces the behavior or stimulates the neck muscles and forces you to maintain muscle tone. Sound far-fetched? You’re right on the money.

“I feel like these should be in the back of comic books,” says Dr. Alvarez. “Please save your money.”

8. Learn a wind instrument

What the experts say: Doctor-approved

We mentioned above that playing the didgeridoo is one alternative, research-backed way to reduce or stop snoring, but learning to play other wind and brass instruments — such as the trumpet or trombone — has also been shown to reduce the likelihood of developing sleep apnea. Certain singing exercises have also been shown to strengthen the throat muscles and reduce nighttime snoring.

Scientists Just Found Out Narwhals Hunt And Stab Fish With Their Giant Tusks

Canadian scientists have made a new discovery about narwhals and their crazy awesome eating habits.

If you’re unfamiliar, narwhals, also known as “unicorns of the sea” (no, we’re not kidding), are whales that live in Arctic waters and have one massive defining characteristic: they have giant tusks.

Or, rather, the males do. They look like this:

But researchers from Fisheries and Oceans Canada have discovered male narwhals will herd arctic cod, get super close and then “hard tap” them with their tusks to stun them. The narwhals then suck their prey into their mouths and have themselves a meal.

SAVAGE, RIGHT?!

The narwhal’s tusk has long been a mystery to scientists. There have been hypotheses that the porous horn acts like a sensor.

“Having all those nerves on the outside allows the whale to detect water pressure, temperature and salinity. It might even be able to detect barometric pressure when it’s above the water’s surface. However, if the tusk is so important to survival, why don’t females have one? We don’t know,” says How Stuff Works.

There have also been guesses that the tusk is used to duel and establish dominance or that it has to do with mating.

However, none of those theories have actually been observed by scientists, which is why the above video depicting the narwhals using the tusks for food is so intriguing.

Knowing how the tusks are used by the animals will also help scientists figure out how to better protect them from extinction.

Nature is so cool. Long live narwhals.

115-Pound Teen Catches A 835-Pound Tuna -- And That's No Fish Tale

You hug that catch, kid.

Kaleb Richardson, a 14-year-old who weighs 115 pounds, reeled in an 835-pound bluefin tuna off Grand Isle, Louisiana, the Pensacola News Journal reported Thursday.

Richardson had help to haul the big one aboard the “Whoo Dat” last month ― but give the kids props for manning the fighting chair to land the fish in just 45 minutes. The bluefin measured a massive 86 inches in girth, the paper said.

The humongous tuna is expected to rank among the five biggest bluefins ever caught off Louisiana, according to Marlin Magazine.

The News Journal noted that Richardson got in some solid practice fishing in Nova Scotia over the winter.

Practice makes perfect, kid.

“(Kaleb) is maybe 115 pounds, and I’ll put him up against any adult angler,” his father, Keith Richardson, told the Acadiana Advocate.

Katy Perry Is Breaded And Boiled In 'Bon Appetit' Music Video

Just when you thought you had your fill of innuendo-heavy, food-related pop songs, Katy Perry’s “Bon Appetit” arrived on the scene to make you feel confused, hungry (in a confused way) and wondering how much she actually knows about the Michelin star system.

On Friday, Perry released a very literal visual interpretation of her single. In her new music video, the pop star is first lifted out of plastic wrap by a team of chefs. They then proceed to rub flour on her very elastic limbs, cover her in carrots and onions, boil her, and do some other stuff. Migos arrives, Perry is laid out on a platter for some very fancy cannibals to consume, and then a pole emerges from the center of the dinner table.

At the end of it all, Perry is left alone, knife and fork in hand, in front of a pie made of human body parts.

We feel ... things, but we don’t have the words for them just yet.

Watch the video above.

'Warm Neptune' Exoplanet Atmosphere Consists Of Hydrogen, Helium, Water Vapor

Scientists are studying water vapor in the atmosphere of an exoplanet discovered in 2011, dubbed HAT-P-26b. NASA reports that combined observations from the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes reveal this planet ― more than 430 light-years from Earth ― has an atmosphere of hydrogen and helium.

Orbiting a sun that’s twice as old as our own, HAT-P-26b is approximately the same size as one of our solar system’s outer planets, Neptune, which also has a hydrogen-helium atmosphere. HAT-P-26b is considered a “Warm Neptune” because it orbits its sun more closely than our own Neptune does.

According to NASA, “HAT-P-26b’s atmosphere is relatively clear of clouds and has a strong water signature, although the planet is not a water world. This is the best measurement of water to date on an exoplanet of this size.”

At the University of Exeter in the U.K., astrophysics professor David Sing is a co-leader of the HAT-P-26b research team, and co-author of a study published May 11 in the journal Science.

“This ‘Warm Neptune’ is a much smaller planet than those we have been able to characterize in depth, so this new discovery about its atmosphere feels like a big breakthrough in our pursuit to learn more about how solar systems are formed, and how it compares to our own,” Sing explained in a University of Exeter statement.

The following video demonstrates how astronomers discover exoplanets using the transit method.

HAT-P-26b study leader Hannah Wakeford, of the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said the research is important because it changes how scientists think about the birth and evolution of planetary systems.

“Astronomers have just begun to investigate the atmospheres of these distant Neptune-mass planets, and almost right away, we found an example that goes against the trend in our solar system,” Wakeford said in a NASA statement.

“This kind of unexpected result is why I really love exploring the atmospheres of alien planets.”

Did The German Embassy Just Subtweet America?

It’s been one helluva ride lately for American politics.

In the past week alone, President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia during the election, causing a maelstrom of anger and confusion from both sides of the political aisle. Not to mention, the Trump administration’s explanation for Comey’s highly unusual dismissal unravelled fairly quickly.

So, when the German embassy in Washington offered a bit of interestingly timed insight on Friday, a lot of people believed it was subtweeting America and throwing some major shade.

“Ever experienced pleasure from someone’s misfortune?” the embassy tweeted Friday afternoon. “There’s a #German word for that: Schadenfreude!”

The embassy’s tweet included a link to its official website, with a blog post that contains a more detailed definition of schadenfreude.

“Do you wish the best for everyone ― even your enemies? Or do you gain pleasure from watching someone fail?” the article, penned by German embassy writer Nicole Glass, reads.

“Most of you would probably never admit to feeling Schadenfreude,” Glass continues. “But be honest: do feelings of Schadenfreude creep up on you when they’re related to someone who wronged you in the past?”

To be fair, the embassy’s schadenfreude reference could be completely innocuous. Nowhere in the tweet does the embassy mention Trump or Comey, nor does it make any political reference. The tweet appears to be part of the embassy’s weekly social media campaign #WordOfTheWeek, which shares German words and their definitions.

For example, last week’s German word of the day was much friendlier: zweisamkeit, defined as “a very intimate, harmonious togetherness without anyone else being in the picture.”

Still, some people assumed Friday’s tweet was the German embassy’s attempt at trolling the Trump administration. With all the crazy news lately, it’s hard to blame them.

Bill Maher Rips Donald Trump For Turning Presidency Into A Reality TV Show

Bill Maher pulled no punches when it came to picking apart the week’s political news on Friday.

The “Real Time” host tore into Donald Trump over the way he fired FBI Director James Comey, before accusing the president of turning the office into a reality TV show.

“The acting Attorney General? Fired. National Security Adviser? You’re fired. FBI Director? You’re fired,” said Maher. “Welcome to ‘Apprentice, Nuclear Edition.’”
