Peaches Wearing Panties Are Apparently A Thing In China

We all know that peaches look like fuzzy pink butts. But have you ever thought to put that peach butt in a pair of peach-sized panties?

Vendors in China have apparently started selling these panties-wearing peaches as novelty gifts. Dubbed “When the honey peach ripens” (which has an erotic connotation in Mandarin), these peaches are apparently being sold as gifts in anticipation of the Qixi festival, which is known as the “Chinese Valentine’s Day.” The Qixi festival falls on Aug. 2 this year.

Sina News reports that a man only referred to as "Mr. Yao" -- an owner of an online fruit shop in China -- has claimed to be the creator of the pantied-peach. Yao has reportedly applied for a patent for the underwear-clad fruit.

Yao says his peaches’ panties are custom-made, Sina reports. Each peach is reportedly dressed by hand.

According to the Jinling Evening News, a box of 9 peaches can cost up to $80. Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/01/peaches-panties-china_n_5642579.html?utm_hp_ref=weird-news&ir=Weird+News

This Bride Photobombed Her Groom In Childhood Photo 11 Years Before They Met

This brings an entirely new meaning to the phrase "picture perfect."

Before British newlyweds Aimee Maiden, 25, and Nick Wheeler, 26, got married, the couple rifled through old photographs at the groom’s grandparents’ home and came upon a gem they never would have expected, the Telegraph reported.

They found a photo taken in 1994 of Wheeler building a boat in the sand with his sister and cousins in Mousehole, Cornwall, where Maiden grew up. In the backdrop, Maiden can also be seen playing at the beach with her family.

What’s particularly striking about this happenstance is that Wheeler lived nowhere near the area. The groom is originally from Kent, which is about 300 miles away from Mousehole, and was spending time there with his family on vacation.

The two eventually officially met in college and got married on Saturday at the Gulval Church, just steps from where the original photo was taken two decades before their wedding day.

But this isn’t the first time a married couple has made such an unlikely discovery.

A week before their wedding, Alex and Donna Voutsinas found a photo that showed the pair when they were little kids -- 30 years before they would ever meet.

The image shows Donna’s family posing with one of the seven dwarfs in Disney World and Alex being pushed in a stroller in the background, the Star reported in 2010. The two were actually living in different countries at the time.

Authorities Investigating Humpback Whale Death After Alaskan Ferry Collision

KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — A team of scientists is investigating the death of a humpback whale that was struck by the state ferry Kennicott near Kodiak.

KMXT reports (http://bit.ly/1m5M1Bj) that law enforcement from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is investigating whether the ferry strike killed the animal.

Kate Wynne, a marine mammal specialist for the University of Alaska Sea Grant Program, said the 25-ton whale died of massive trauma.

Frances Gulland, the lead veterinarian for the investigation, said the whale was hit while it was alive. But Gulland said it still wasn't known whether the death was caused by the ship.

A spokesman for the ferry system, Jeremy Woodrow, said the incident happened Saturday. He said it is a rare occurrence. He added that there was no damage to the ferry.

Gubernatorial Candidate Christine Jones Says She Shoots With Her Eyes Closed At Gun Ranges

Supporters of Republican and former GoDaddy executive Christine Jones may want to give her a wide berth at the gun ranges she's been frequenting as she runs for governor of Arizona.

Jones told Phoenix television station KSAZ that she practices her aim in a potentially perilous manner: by shooting with her eyes closed.

"I don't change clothes. I don't change glasses," Jones told the reporter, who interviewed her at a gun range. "I often shoot one-handed. I often shoot with my eyes closed."

When the reporter asked her to clarify her last comment, Jones explained: "Because chances are if somebody attacks you it's gonna be in the night."

Jones has made her unambiguous support for the Second Amendment a distinctive feature of her campaign. A spokeswoman told The Huffington Post in June that at that point in the race she had met with supporters at nearly 20 gun stores across the state.

She is running against a handful of other Republicans in the race to succeed Gov. Jan Brewer (R), who can't run again because of term limits. Arizona State Treasurer and former Cold Stone Creamery CEO Doug Ducey is considered Jones' strongest rival for the Republican nomination.

Damien Hirst Is Building A Town No One Wants

The people of Ilfracombe, England have a lot of feelings about Damien Hirst, and you can't blame them. To start with, the world's wealthiest artist (who keeps a house in Ilfracombe, a resort town on the Devon coast) loaned his adoptive seaside home a not-exactly-longed-for gift in the form of Verity, a gigantic bronze statue of a pregnant lady with visible innards and questionable interpretive value.

Now Hirst is expanding his sights. His next step in Ilfracombe is to build a town on its outskirts, like some kind of art world version of Mr. Henry F. Potter.

The North Devon Journal has details on Hirst's Southern Extension project, which was greenlit Wednesday. Dubbed Hirstville by critics (ahem), the 875-acre plot "will be home to 750 houses, shops, a new primary school and health care facilities. Sports pitches, woodlands and allotments are also planned."

2014-07-31-DAMIENHIRSTVERITY_original.jpg

Remember this jolly addition to the Ilfracombe skyline? Photo by Getty.

As with Verity, whose prominent placement at the harbor entrance drew ire, Southern Extension is divisive. Some are calling it a vanity project that will disturb wildlife, destroy the aesthetics of the small town and put unneeded pressure on its road with an influx of rich Londoners (only 10 percent of the homes are designated as low income housing).

On the other side, Ilfracombe council members who voted in favor of the project cite job creation and population growth, both consequences sleepy seaside towns may not want, but often need in order to survive.

Perhaps the most scathing review so far comes from Daily Mail columnist and Ilfracombe resident Robert Hardman, who wrote about Southern Extension when it was still being debated over last December. Hardman attacks Hirst more than he does the project, but the two, he argues, are intertwined. Comparing Hirst's latest endeavor to his flashy artwork -- the pickled shark, the diamond-encrusted skull -- he posits that Southern Extension is yet another "lucrative triumph of hype over common sense."

Hirst does seem to see Ilfracombe as mere setting for temples to himself. Of the many institutions he's already backed in the town, few if any seem to take residents into account -- unless everyone in Ilfracombe is as obsessed with Hirst as he seems to be. Here's Hardman's list:

He’s got his own restaurant — with pickled fish on the wall in homage to that infamous pickled shark — and is in the process of building a café three doors down. In between is his art gallery, where £4,000 will buy you a limited edition print of one of Hirst’s trademark ‘spot’ paintings...Just up the road from the port, he has a hotel project underway...By far the most obvious Hirst imprint, however, stands at the entrance to the harbour.

Verity, that is, though her days as Hirst Imprint No. 1 are numbered. Detailed designs must still be submitted for Southern Extension before work can begin, but for all intents and purposes, Hirstville is a go. We're betting that park holds a pickled shark or two. You Can't Unsee These Disney Characters Behaving Badly (NSFW)

You know that strange stomach feeling you get thinking of your parents drinking, smoking, or doing that other thing that parents sometimes do?

That uncomfortable pang is small potatoes compared to the grimace-inducing experience of watching Daffy Duck or Prince Charming engage in illicit adult activities. Just take a look at Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck taking bong rips and tell us your childhood self isn't crying on the inside.

minnie

These wonderfully warped depictions of Disney classics is brought to you by artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros. His upcoming exhibition, "Profanity Pop," is described as a "celebration of creative freedom in our time" -- creative freedom apparently translating to Snow White taking sexy selfies. There's something surprisingly unnerving about watching your childhood BFFs making out, doing drugs and taking pregnancy tests, no matter how much you thought you'd moved on from your Disney roots.

Although the exhibition features all the standard symbols of post-adolescent rebellion, the imagined scenarios aren't strictly for the purpose of breaking the rules. Beneath the surface, most of Ontiveros' artworks harken back to classic themes of mythology, religion and power -- the stuff on which art history was founded. While it's strange to see Mickey and co. exploring the dark underbellies of these taboo territories, it's also clear that Ontiveros isn't just going for shock value. His Disney reimaginings give two-dimensional characters the rare opportunity to transgress the "Rated G" laws under which they were created, giving the cheery cartoons a freedom they were so long denied. Of course, that doesn't mean watching Cinderella get drunk with Frida Kahlo will make you any less creeped out.

Check out Ontiveros' bold works below, featuring artsy cameos by both Kahlo and our personal favorite, Bob Ross. For more interpretations on the naughty Disney theme, check out Dina Goldstein and Saint Hoax.

Imagine A World Where Drones Are So Bored They're Taking Selfies

Imagine a world free from war, terror and violence, where drones are stripped of their aggressive associations. What will become of these war machines once there's nothing left to fight for?

Italian artist collective IOCOSE poses one possibility with "Drone Selfies," a snarky photo series that proves drones are just like us -- i.e., can't resist snapping their best angle in the bathroom mirror. While we can't quite discern whether or not said drones are making duck face for the camera, we can confirm the aerial weapons look damn good.

girl

The "Drone Selfies" are part of a series titled "In Times of Peace," which imagines potential activities for drones post-war. In an earlier edition, for example, they ran 100 meter races and logged their progress in a Nike app. "This series displays the daily activities of drones," Paolo Ruffino, one of IOCOSE's four members explained in an email to the Huffington Post. "What would they do if they were not involved in war scenarios, or used by human beings to deliver parcels, take photos of unreachable areas and so on? We think drones would probably keep themselves busy with very banal activities, repetitive tasks that do not need much imagination."

Despite the glorious silliness of the project, there's a tragedy to the underlying idea that drones, and perhaps humans as well, feel useless without war. In Ruffino's words: "The merging of war and peace is at the centre of our project, but even more than that there is the difficulty of imagining 'peace' per se. The drones we have captured in our work cannot possibly imagine anything that is not boring and useless, as much as we are probably similarly unable to imagine how to live in 'times of peace'. The banality of the selfies is a way of communicating an uncomfortable feeling."

boo

The drones are captured in the comforts of a domestic setting, surrounded by the trinkets, photos and commercial goods that often help orient a human selfie. One difference, however, between human selfies and their drone counterpart, is the dreaded "selfie arm" -- the appendage that always gives your selfie away as such. Turns out drones are relieved of this burden.

"Most drones in commerce come with a built-in camera, so if they were to take selfies of themselves, their easiest option would be to use those," Filippo Cuttica explained to Creator's Project. "The fact that the outcome looks kind of awkward adds an interesting layer to the images, as it captures the (failed) attempt of technology to mimic human behavior. We imagined drones using their skills and potentialities in different and unusual ways, flying just for the sake of jogging and using their built-in camera for trivial purposes."

As for the endless barrage of think pieces that come along with #selfielife, it remains to be seen whether drones too will self-photograph with such existential angst. "Our drones are definitely presenting their own images, taking photos to create and promote their public image," said Cuttica. "We cannot really say whether they like themselves. They are not humans, after all."

See the drones do their thing below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

You'll Never Believe Why This Employee Is Suing Taco Bell

In a painfully ironic twist of fate for a faux-Mexican fast-food chain, a former Taco Bell manager is suing the company, saying she was canned for hiring Hispanics.

As Courthouse News first reported, Juanita O'Connell, who is Mexican-American, is suing Taco Bell for back pay and damages in federal court. In a complaint filed Wednesday, O'Connell claims that one of her superiors saw a Latino employee working at the Indianapolis restaurant she managed. The superior then allegedly said to O'Connell: "Didn't I tell you not to hire Hispanics?"

O'Connell, 60, had worked at Taco Bell since 1987, eventually attaining the title of general manager at her restaurant, according to the complaint.

Taco Bell, which serves meals loosely inspired by Mexican cuisine, denied the allegations in a statement to The Huffington Post.

"While we haven't been served with the complaint, these are very serious allegations and if true, are not a reflection of our culture or standards," Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch told The Huffington Post in an email. "We've launched an investigation to get the facts."

"My client was working at one of the Taco Bell stores here in Indianapolis and her area coach basically came up to her and told her she needed to quit hiring Latinos," O'Connell's attorney Joel Paul told HuffPost. "And she continued to hire Latinos, because she thought that was discriminatory."

Paul said that two weeks after the initial incident, O'Connell's supervisors came to the store to punish her for an E-Verify violation that Paul said she may have incurred when hiring an undocumented worker. E-Verify is an online system maintained by the U.S. government for identifying undocumented immigrants who attempt to work illegally.

"They wrote her up, and two or three hours later that same day, they fired her," said Paul.

O'Connell's lawsuit is one of a number of eyebrow-raising complaints brought against Taco Bell in recent years. In 2011, an Alabama firm filed a class-action suit alleging that the beef in Taco Bell meals contained too much filler to be called "meat," according to NPR. The suit was dropped after Taco Bell changed its marketing practices.

Last year, Gary Cole, a prisoner serving a 25-year sentence in a Colorado facility, also sued the chain, saying he had invented the Doritos Locos taco, ABC News reports. The courts later dismissed the case, which Taco Bell said was meritless. Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/01/taco-bell-hispanics_n_5641399.html?utm_hp_ref=weird-news&ir=Weird+News

This Lying Down Desk Is Roughly 10,000x Better Than Standing Desks

Thought standing desks would be the way of the future? Well, a company in Japan is about to give the alternative desk solution a run for its money.

Sanko Co.'s "Lazy Desk" is now available for preorder online. The product, priced at 8,980 yen (about $90), aims to fulfill everyone's wish of never having to get out of bed to go to work.

The product, originally reported on by Live Door News, allows the user to secure a laptop above his or her resting head. However, the device is able to rotate 360 degrees, so users can position their computers any way they choose.

For example, users can opt to work lying in bed ...

Jimmy Fallon Can't Keep It Together Playing 'Face Balls' With Julia Roberts

Jimmy Fallon really knows how to make an impression.

On Thursday, July 31, Fallon welcomed Julia Roberts to the "Tonight Show" by playing "Face Balls," a new game where competitors take turns pelting each other in the face with clear, inflatable balls.

It sounds like it could get out of hand pretty quickly, but don't worry. It was super hilarious, and Roberts still makes it out a "Pretty Woman."

Highway Covered In Butter After Delicious Accident

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A semitrailer has overturned on an Indianapolis interstate, spilling what police say are 45,000 pounds of packages of butter and other dairy products.

The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. Friday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 465 just west of its interchange with Interstate 65 on the city's south side.

The crash left perhaps thousands of butter tubs strewn on the highway, many broken open and coating the roadway.

Police say the truck driver apparently fell asleep and hit a highway barrier. No injuries were reported.

Some lanes of the highway are expected to be closed for hours for cleanup work, with crews using a small front-end loader to scoop the butter tubs and whipped cream containers into large trash bins.

What The Heck Is Beard Oil, And How Does It Work?

We've been digging bearded men long before The New York Times declared facial hair fashionable. There's just something about a well-groomed guy that makes us stop and stare. But we also notice when there's a hair askew, or the not-so-sexy way scruff feels when our faces come into contact.

Luckily, there's a product to help with that and it's called beard oil. Packed with conditioning ingredients like jojoba oil, grapeseed oil and argan oil, Dove Men+Care hair expert Jason Schneidman believes it is essential for maintaining facial hair.

"Most men don't believe they need to use any products at all," says Schneidman. "Men should take care of their facial hair as much as they take care of the hair on their heads.

But if you're not convinced that you need to add beard oil to your daily routine, here are three tips from the celebrity groomer that'll make you a believer.

Beard oil moisturizes facial hair and the skin beneath.

Beard oil is hydrating to the skin and helps soften and tame beard hair, which means it also does double-duty as a styling agent. According to Schneidman, the ideal beard should look shiny and groomed -- not dusty, flaky and shaggy.

The best time to apply beard oil is right after washing your face.

Schneidman recommends putting on beard oil first thing in the morning after showering or cleansing. "This way, your hair follicles and pores are open and can easily absorb the oil," he adds. "Caring for skin, particularly cleansing and moisturization, is crucial, especially if you live in a cold or dry climate. We tend to think 'more is better,' but just a few drops of most things is plenty."

Beard oil keeps facial hair flake-free and smelling fresh.

Thanks to moisturizing oils, a little beard oil is just enough to tame those flyaway hairs and eliminate flakes (a.k.a. beard-druff). And with so many musky/woody essential oils like cedarwood and sandalwood, Schneidman points out that this often overlooked product also acts as a natural cologne.

Get to grooming, fellas! See our top beard oil picks below.

These Pretty Ladies Would Like To Talk To You About Pit Bulls

Hey sailor, would you like to talk about why laws that ban or otherwise restrict the ownership of pit bulls aren't an effective way to promote public safety?

Deirdre Franklin has been combining her interests in slinky retro fashion and blocky headed dogs for about a decade now.

The founder of Pinups for Pitbulls, Franklin is a burlesque performer going by the stage name "Little Darling." She got involved in the dog cause while volunteering as a teenager at a Philadelphia animal shelter that had a policy of putting down every pit that came through its doors.

After one especially heartbreaking euthanasia, she sought out a pit bull of her own, and came to adopt a pup named Carla Lou from a Texas rescue group who shipped the dog even though Franklin was so young and far away.

Getting the dog opened Franklin's eyes: she learned that pit bulls are barred from living in hundreds of jurisdictions around the country and that people will cross the street when they see one walking down the sidewalk, even if the dog's tail is wagging.

She learned that even dogs like Carla Lou, who'd been left to die in the basement of an abandoned house before her rescue, and who have been shuttled across the country into the care of arguably-unprepared teenagers, are "amazing," Franklin says. "She inspired me to defend her kind for the rest of my life."

These efforts started with a calendar with the hook of appealing pictures, so that folks who like photos of good-looking women cavorting with dogs would also get a dollop of pro-pit messaging.

"Once you have them engaged, then you can educate them," she says. "I thought it would be a little Kinko's-style calendar that would come out for, like, one year."

Only that first year was 2007, and the Michael Vick dogfighting bust was stirring up more interest in pit bulls, "so I got a lot of press because of his story," says Franklin. She decided to go to grad school and earned a masters of science in public policy from Drexel University in order to make sure that she was using her newfound platform responsibly.

pinups for pitbulls

Franklin wrote her grad school thesis on the many, many problems with pit bull bans, or "breed specific legislation." Indeed, it's for good reasons that groups like the American Bar Association, the Centers for Disease Control and, most recently, the American Veterinary Medical Association have taken positions against these sorts of restrictions.

Here's your dollop of messaging: The problems include that the restrictions are expensive and difficult to enforce, without making anyone safer; they also lead to good dogs being taken away from loving families due to nothing more than the shapes of their heads. Some families are forced either to move, or to live in fear that beloved pets may be seized without having done anything wrong, other than being born into a form that makes people nervous.

Along those lines, Franklin's interest went beyond the political: "I was terrified," she says, "that someone could come to my door and take my dog away from me, like the Gestapo."

Since that first calendar, which is now an annual event, Pinups for Pitbulls has expanded its advocacy and education work, while also helping rescue groups find homes for homeless pets.

This fall, get ready for Pinups for Pitbulls, the book edition. Due out in October, the book is more than half photos. But there's also a section about hero dogs, like Wallace the pit bull, plus tools for training dogs and becoming a pit bull advocate, information about breed specific legislation, a history of Pinups for Pitbulls and Carla Lou the dog who inspired it, and more.

pinups for pitbulls

Franklin, now lives in North Carolina with her husband and their dog Baxter Bean (Carla Lou died as an elderbull in 2012). She hopes the book will reach an even broader audience with the message that pit bulls may be goofballs -- see, for example, Thelma Sparklepants, a calendar model-cum-therapy dog Franklin says has been known to let out remarkable gaseous expulsions during petting sessions -- and they may be frequent victims of discrimination and abuse.

But at the end of the day, pit bulls' true essence is that they are canine companions, nothing more and nothing less.

"It's just really an opportunity for dialogue," she says. "I want people to know that they're just dogs. Period. They are special to people who have them. But they're just dogs who have the same kind of personalities as other dogs. They sleep on the couch. They fart. They like treats, and they like belly scratches, like the next dog."

Strange Supernova Casts Doubt On Star Explosion Theories

Light from a radioactive metal forged inside a supernova blast could prompt a rethink of how some star explosions occur.

The supernova SN 2014J is located 11.4 million light-years from Earth in the galaxy M82. Astronomers used the European Space Agency's International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) spacecraft to examine the star explosion's light spectrum in the gamma-ray bands and saw elements that shouldn't have been there — suggesting that widely accepted models of how such events happen might be incomplete.

Scientists with the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany made the supernova discovery. [More Photos of Supernova SN 2014J]

A strange supernova

SN 2014J is a type Ia supernova. Type Ia supernovas occur in binary systems with two stars in orbits so close that the stars exchange mass. As the more massive star of the pair ages it evolves into a white dwarf, a star that is the size of Earth but has up to 1.4 times the mass of the sun. The companion star's outer envelope gets pulled to the tiny, but very dense, dwarf's surface. [How to Make A Supernova - Feed A Dwarf (Video)]

Over time, the gas piles up on the white dwarf until enough pressure and heat build up and ignite fusion reactions. The hydrogen becomes helium, and then the helium goes through the "triple alpha" process, fusing into carbon and oxygen. Since the fusion is happening very quickly and the gravity of the white dwarf is so large, there's not enough time for the gas to expand and the stuff on the white dwarf surface explodes. The explosion is so powerful that it disrupts the white dwarf's interior, obliterating it and seeding the rest of the universe with heavy elements.

weird supernova

The two images at left and center show the central portions of galaxy M82 prior to the supernova explosion. The right image shows supernova SN2014J taken by the FLITECAM instrument on the SOFIA observatory on February 20, 2014.

What the Max Planck team saw was a gamma-ray signature of nickel-56, a radioactive isotope of the metal that emits gamma rays as it decays into cobalt-56. It has a half-life of only about six days, but the gamma rays were still visible 15 days after the supernova blew up.

"We were observing it and after about three weeks most of nickel-56 would have decayed," said Roland Diehl, lead author of the study. "The nickel-56 would be cobalt. But we saw the gamma-ray line… Some of our colleagues said that can't be true."

A helium belt?

The spectral line was also narrow and sharp, when it should have been wider and more diffuse – the result of moving toward the observers along the line of sight in the wake of the explosion. The blast should have also been relatively symmetrical. But it wasn't.

That led Diehl and his colleagues to think there had to be a "belt" of helium around the white dwarf's equator, which would account for the supernova's shape. Seeing the nickel could be explained if the view was pole-on, so that the helium fusing into other elements such as carbon and oxygen wouldn't block the light from the nickel.

The hypotheses in Diehl's study also depend on the accretion of mass being relatively fast. Too slow and the white dwarf turns into either a more massive dwarf or a neutron star. On top of that, any gas that reaches the surface of a white dwarf tends to "flatten out" and cover the surface evenly because the gravity is so strong.

The next question is where the helium came from. There are two possible sources. One is a companion star, but most stars don't have a lot of helium in their outer envelopes unless they are rather massive to begin with.

"Usually stars with bigger [helium] cores evolve faster, so the star with the bigger core should die first," said Alexander Heger, a professor of physics at Monash University in Australia, in an email to Space.com. "The only way out would be to have a system with more than one phase of mass transfer, i.e., the star that is now the less massive white dwarf initially was the more massive star but by the time it died it had transferred a lot of mass to the companion. Such models and details of mass transfer and ejection from the system are still quite uncertain."

Alternate theories

The other possibility is a helium white dwarf, orbiting close enough to a companion white dwarf that it nearly grazes it.

Helium white dwarfs are hard to create because a star that could become one on its own would have a low mass, on the order of 0.6 times the mass of Earth's sun, said Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, a professor of astronomy at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Such stars would take so long to become white dwarfs that the universe hasn't been around long enough for them to form.

Ramirez-Ruiz, who was not involved in Diehl's research, said that's why the traditional model of type Ia supernovas needs tweaking. To get the helium there is probably some kind of mass exchange between the two stars in a binary system as well as between the remaining aged star and white dwarf, and even between two white dwarf stars.

Diehl's observations, he said, are the first time anyone has seen clear evidence of that kind of supernova, as well as the nickel.

The nickel is important, because it shows the disruption at the center of the white dwarf, evidence for a "double detonation" model. In that scenario, the explosive fusion of the helium on the white dwarf surface produces a kind of focused shockwave that triggers yet other fusion reactions inside the dwarf, leading to the production of radioactive nickel.

"It's really forced us to revisit the old models," Ramirez-Ruiz said.

Their research is detailed in the Aug. 1 issue of the journal Science.

Bear Saves Drowning Crow, Doesn't Eat It

You're a hungry bear, surrounded by apples and carrots, when a crow wanders into your enclosure and gets stuck in the water.

Dinnertime, right?

Not so fast. Check out what this bear did, in a video that was recorded at the Budapest Zoo last month and posted to YouTube by Aleksander Medveš. Even the crow doesn't seem to believe it!

Obama Doesn't Like Katy Perry -- He LOVES Her

We have an important clarification to make: President Barack Obama doesn't like Katy Perry.

He LOVES her.

HuffPost's Jen Bendery was the pool reporter during an event Thursday in which the president sung the praises of Perry, who would perform that evening at a White House event for the Special Olympics.

"I like Katy Perry," Bendery's initial pool report quoted the president as saying. "She is just a wonderful person. I just met her mom, now I know why she's such a wonderful person."

Committed to getting the story right, Jen gave the audio another listen and found the president actually has stronger feelings for the "California Gurls" singer-songwriter:

There was a lot of love to go around at the event. Jen also caught this unforgettable moment and shared it via Twitter:

Ah, So This Is What Perfect Timing Looks Like

As far as wedding photos go, this pic is everything you could ever possibly want or wish for. Why? Two words: SHARK KISS.

The perfectly timed photo was taken at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ in 2010, but didn't pick up steam until it was posted to Reddit on Wednesday.

And skeptics, we know what you're thinking -- this awesome picture must be photoshopped. We initially had our doubts as well, so we reached out to the photographer who assured us that the photo is 100 percent real.

"Every photographer does some work to it, meaning a little change in exposure, contrast, saturation, etc., but it is not photoshopped in the manipulative ways," Joe Gidjunis told us via email. "That shark is real. Everything about it is real and true."

So how exactly did he capture the perfect shot?

"I remember doing the photo for one to two minutes, and I think we took about 10 photos. This one with the shark was toward the last of the series, and I think the shark was curious about the flash popping in this tank, and came over to see what was happening. I'd like to say we waited for the perfect moment, but it was a lot of luck."

And one more badass shark shot because why not:

Nearly Naked Man Tripping On Acid Fires Gun At Pizzeria, Police Say

Here's a volatile combination: nudity, guns, drugs and pizza.

At least for Phillip Engle, the 27-year-old man who found himself in a not-so-happy situation at Happy's Pizza in Muskegon Charter Township, Michigan, this weekend.

Engle, who lives next door, allegedly showed up at the pizzeria wearing just a towel Saturday evening, with his three young children in tow. According to the police incident report, Engle was carrying a gun, and he used it to bang on the glass door until it shattered. The gun then allegedly discharged, and police found a bullet casing lodged in the door's metal frame.

Officers who responded to the scene say they found Engle on his porch with a handgun. He threw the gun in the yard when ordered to drop it. Later he told them that he had three loaded guns in his home, which they confiscated for safekeeping.

An employee at Happy's Pizza told an officer from the Muskegon Township Police Department that when Engle was at the shop, he yelled, "No one will help me," and "No one will feed my kids!" He also allegedly said, "I'm trippin' out!"

Engle reportedly told police that he had earlier consumed four hits of LSD.

One of Engle's young children told officers that her father had also shot the dashboard of their car because it wouldn't stop beeping. They found a spent casing on the dashboard and what appeared to be a bullet hole.

According to Fox 17, Engle's wife said she took out a personal protection order from him.

Engle was arraigned on four misdemeanor charges Monday: malicious destruction of property worth $200 to $1,000, careless discharge of a firearm, reckless use of a firearm and possession of a firearm while under the influence.

Cronut Guy To Sell Ice Cream Sundaes Out Of A Can, From A Truck

It's been more than a year since the debut of Chef Dominique Ansel's coveted Cronut, and the hubbub shows no sign of dulling down any time soon. At the crack of dawn, well into this year, sugar-seeking patrons were still waiting in line for the chance to taste one of Ansel's masterful pastries at his bakery in New York City's SoHo area.

We can only imagine, then, what the hysteria will look like when Chef Ansel debuts his one-day, pop-up ice cream truck, called "Pop It," this Saturday, August 2, in East Hampton.

The experimental culinary artist will be selling Warhol-inspired cans filled with sundaes of root beer and stracciatella ice cream, mascarpone semifreddo, macerated cherries, mini marshmallows and meringues.

According to the New York Post, each can serves two and can be purchased for $15. Twenty percent of the proceeds will go toward a New York charity called City Harvest, so even though you'll be gastronomically indulging, at least you'll also be doing some good.

H/T: Eater

P.S. If you can't hitch a ride to Long Island's swank beach city for a taste of the stuff, here are some recipes that will, hopefully, keep you satisfied:
