Neil deGrasse Tyson Spills On His Shocking X-Rated Career Contemplation

Neil deGrasse Tyson didn’t dance around how he considered making dough in college when he told Kelly Clarkson about his past encounter at a male strip club.

The astrophysicist, once an active dancer while at the University of Texas at Austin, told the talk show host that he was a performing member of three different dance companies before opening up about the career path he took into consideration.

“I was still studying astrophysics, and I had fellow dancers who were making extra money — ’cause I needed money, ’cause we weren’t paid much — and one of them said, ‘Why don’t you come down with us?’ because some of them danced at a strip club, a guy’s strip club,” Tyson said.

“So I went and I was cut and flex— I could do a full split ... but I went to just investigate, I wanted data first.”

Tyson added that he was watching dancers come out with “asbestos-lined jockstraps that had been ignited with lighter fluid” before performing an iconic ’50s rock song: Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire.”

“Let me just say, I’m embarrassed that only in that moment when I saw their genitals on fire did I say, ‘Maybe I should be a math tutor,’” he said as Clarkson’s audience laughed.

“I’m just sayin’, at that point I had other thoughts about how to earn money,” he added.

“You’re like, ‘I’m gonna keep this junk safe,’” Clarkson quipped.

Tyson has previously opened up about his strip club outing during a 2017 episode of Pitchfork’s “Over/Under” where he described himself as being in “very good shape” at the time.

A Pond In Hawaii Turned Barbie Pink. Here's What Scientists Think That Means.

HONOLULU (AP) — A pond in Hawaii has turned so bubble-gum pink it could be from the set of “Barbie,” but the bizarre phenomenon is no cause for a dance party. Drought may be to blame for the strange hue, scientists say, and they’re warning against entering the water or drinking it.

Staff at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui have been monitoring the pink water since Oct. 30.

“I just got a report from somebody that was walking on the beach, and they called me up like, ‘There’s something weird going on over here,’” said Bret Wolfe, the refuge manager.

Wolfe was concerned the bright pink could be a sign of an algae bloom, but lab tests found toxic algae was not causing the color. Instead an organism called halobacteria might be the culprit.

Halobacteria are a type of archaea or single-celled organism that thrive in bodies of water with high levels of salt. The salinity inside the Kealia Pond outlet area is currently greater than 70 parts per thousand, which is twice the salinity of seawater. Wolfe said the lab will need to conduct a DNA analysis to definitively identify the organism.

Maui’s drought is likely contributing to the situation. Normally Waikapu Stream feeds into Kealia Pond and raises water levels there, but Wolfe said that hasn’t happened in a long time.

When it rains, the stream will flow into Kealia’s main pond and then into the outlet area that’s now pink. This will reduce the salinity and potentially change the water’s color.

“That might be what makes it go away,” Wolfe said.

No one at the refuge has seen the pond this color before — not even volunteers who have been around it for 70 years. The pond has been through periods of drought and high salinity before, though, and Wolfe isn’t sure why the color has changed now.

Curious visitors have flocked to the park after photos of the pink pond appeared on social media.

“We prefer that they come to hear about our our mission conserving native and endangered waterbirds and our wetland restorations. But no, they’re here to see the pink water,” Wolfe joked.

He understands everyone’s fascination.

“If that’s what gets them there, it’s OK,” he said. “It is neat.”

The wildlife refuge is a wetland that provides nesting, feeding and resting habitat to the endangered Hawaiian stilt, known as aeo, and the Hawaiian coot or alae keokeo. It also hosts migratory birds during the winter.

The water doesn’t appear to be harming the birds, Wolfe said.

As a wildlife refuge, people aren’t supposed to wade into the pond or let their pets in the water regardless of its color. But officials are taking an extra precaution to warn people not to enter the water or eat any fish caught there because the source of the color has yet to be identified.

Bear-y Hungry: Video Shows Florida Mammal Swiping Food Delivery Order Off A Porch

LONGWOOD, Florida (AP) — A fast-food loving black bear stole a $45 Taco Bell order from the front porch of a home in the Orlando suburb of Longwood moments after the Uber Eats driver delivered it, an Orlando television station reported.

This is no Florida man story, as there’s no evidence a Floridian dressed in a bear costume stole the food. Rather, the criminal was a real-life Florida black bear estimated to weigh 300 to 400 pounds, WOFL-TV reported.

The caper happened Friday, and it was captured on the home’s Ring camera. The video shows the beast sauntering up to the front door and grabbing the bag in its mouth. Then, a short time later, it comes back to steal the drinks.

“He came, and he grabbed the food – then he came again for the soda,” Nicole Castro told the TV station.

When the family opened the front door about 10 minutes later, the Ring video captures their reaction: “The bear took the food!”

Uber Eats reimbursed the family for the stolen food, the TV station reported.

First Ever Florida Man Games To Feature Beer Belly Wrestling, ‘Evading Arrest’ Obstacle Course

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) — It ain’t the Olympics, but a group of Floridians plan to host competitions themed according to the collective antics of the beer-loving, gator-possessing, rap-sheet heavy, mullet-wearing social media phenomenon known as “Florida Man.”

Organizers of the “Florida Man Games” describe the competition as “the most insane athletic showdown on Earth.” The games will poke fun at Florida’s reputation for producing strange news stories involving guns, drugs, booze and reptiles — or some combination of the four.

Among the contests planned for next February in St. Augustine, Florida, according to organizers, are the Evading Arrest Obstacle Course in which contestants jump over fences and through yards while being chased by real police officers; the Category 5 Cash Grab in which participants try to grab as much money in a wind-blowing booth; and the self-explanatory beer-belly wrestling.

“This isn’t just a competition; it’s a one-of-a-kind Floridian spectacle!” organizers said on the games’ website.

The “Florida Man” concept crept into the nation’s consciousness a decade ago with the @_FloridaMan Twitter account. The account, with the tagline “Real-life stories of the world’s worst superhero,” has been home to headlines such as “Florida Man Fire Bombs Garage That Impounded His Car, Hits His Own Vehicle” and “Florida Man Tried to Pay for McDonald’s With Weed.”

General admission tickets to the event are going for $45. Two former stars of the 1990s television show “American Gladiators” have agreed to serve as referees.

A St. Augustine resident is behind the games: Pete Melfi, owner of The 904 Now, a media outlet covering St. Johns County.

“We thought, ‘How can we really play on these Florida Man headlines that we hear so much about?’ Someone gave me the idea to make it into an athletic competition,” Melfi told the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s going to be a wild day of mud games and Florida-style obstacle courses. It’s going to really be an opportunity to live that Florida Man life for a day.”

Goldie Hawn Says An E.T. Touched Her And It 'Felt Like A Finger Of God'

Some people might find an encounter with an extraterrestrial to be, well, alienating.

But not actor Goldie Hawn. In fact, she says it felt like she was being touched by “a finger of God.”

Hawn recently described having an alien encounter on the “Time to Walk” program on Apple Fitness+ and said it happened when she was around 20, somewhere in the California desert at a time when there had been “a lot of UFO sightings.”

The Oscar-winning actor said she had been dancing outside when she decided to take a nap in a fellow dancer’s car.

But Hawn didn’t get much sleep thanks to a “high-pitched sound” in her ear, she remembered.

“It was this high, high frequency,” she explained. “And I looked out the window, and I saw these two or three triangular-shaped heads.”

Hawn said the aliens she met were “silver in color,” had a “slash for a mouth,” a “tiny little nose” and “no ears.”

Years later, Hawn said, she met an astrophysicist from the University of Champaign, Illinois, who studied alien encounters and triggered more detailed memories about the experience.

“It was kind of like regression therapy or something,” Hawn said. “I am, like, almost in a trance. And suddenly I remembered something. They touched my face.”

Hawn said the touch “felt like the finger of God” and “was the most benevolent, loving feeling. This was powerful. It was filled with light.”

The actor said the creatures pointed at her in her car as if she were a subject.

“I could not move. I was paralyzed … I didn’t know if it was real or not real,” she said.

That wasn’t Hawn’s only paranormal experience, she said.

She recounted a dream she had in London of seeing six lights coming up on “some little mountains up across the valley.” Later, she drove to a place that resembled the valley in her dream where she ran into a mysterious heart-shaped crop circle.

Hawn said she didn’t know if that crop circle sighting was a sign but that it didn’t really matter.

“I don’t want to know everything,” she said. “We cut ourselves off from a lot of things if we’re continuing to deny something that we have no proof over. There’s a lot of things in this world that we can’t see, but we can’t stop believing.”

She added: “We can never, ever lose our wonder. It’s just no fun. It’s really an important aspect of being an adventurer, where nothing is impossible.”

An a-dough-rable pair of New York City rats got their paws on a doughnut in a TikTok clip that’s proved a worthy challenger to the beloved pizza rat footage.

The video, shared by Carly Hittner on her account @smallredcar, shows a rat nibbling on a doughnut abandoned on the subway tracks, then dragging it away.

The rat then finds a fellow rodent, and the two split the snack in what looks like the kind of budding romance that hasn’t been seen since Roddy and Rita in “Flushed Away.”

“Some of the men in this city need lessons in chivalry,” Hittner wrote in a caption on the video, which has more than 3.3 million views.

The TikTok user also tagged the video with a sharp message for the Big Apple: “Donut rat treats his woman better than half you other rats in this city.”

Hittner told Today.com that she took the video earlier this month following a dinner date with her boyfriend.

“We see this rat trying to carry this thing that’s bigger than its whole body and you’re thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s like pizza rat!’” said Hittner, referring to the ambitious rodent that took social media by storm in 2015 and sparked allegations of a hoax.

The apparent “love story” between the “doughnut rat” and its friend led to a caption that Hittner based on a recent talk with a pal about dating in the Big Apple.

“I was listening to my friends talking about dating, relationships and their kind of grievances with dating in the city. And it was like, ‘Oh, well, if a rat can do it. It’s simple. It shouldn’t be this hard,’” she said.

The clip, which Hittner shared on Wednesday, has TikTok users praising the rat as “A HIGH VALUE MAN” as well as a “PROVIDER” for its squeaky sweetheart.

“The NY rats have a better love life than I do,” one user wrote.

“This is the nicest guy in nyc,” proclaimed another user.

Hittner told New York’s Fox 5 that she’s “humored and surprised” by how much support and agreement there’s been over what she referred to as a “lighthearted jab.”

High School Teacher's Satan Costume Causes A Hell Of A Controversy

A high school teacher in Mesa, Arizona, has been suspended after a few students were reportedly spooked by the educator’s Spirit Week costume: The devil himself.

When students showed up at the unidentified teacher’s classroom last week, they found the teacher wearing devil horns and carrying a pitchfork, according to Mesa NBC affiliate KPNX.

As each student entered the class, the teacher reportedly waved the pitchfork over their head and said, “Hail Satan.”

Sophomore Nathaniel Hamlet told the station that while some students thought the teacher’s antics were funny and others just blew it off, he personally didn’t appreciate it for religious reasons.

“I said, ‘Don’t do that to me,’ and I pushed [the pitchfork] away, maybe three or four times, and he still said it and still did it,” Hamlet told KPNX.

The unidentified teacher told the station that the Satan costume was part of a Halloween-themed Spirit Week.

“Participating in spirit weeks like this is a way for me to engage with my students and bring fun to my classroom,” the teacher said. “It’s truly not any more complicated than that.”

But Hamlet didn’t agree and told his dad, former Mesa Public School board candidate Chris Hamlet, who reported the incident to the school’s principal.

“I was livid because I am a Christian as well, obviously,” Chris Hamlet told KPNX. “What really tipped it over for me is he kept telling him no, and he and the teacher kept persisting.”

As a result, the teacher was taken out of the classroom the next day and put on paid administrative leave, according to a statement the Mesa Public Schools District gave to HuffPost.

“Mesa Public Schools administration was notified of the alleged incident at Mesa High School late Wednesday afternoon after school hours.

“Our Human Resources department began the investigation Thursday morning and placed the teacher on paid administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”

Nathaniel Hamlet told KPNX he thinks the suspension is fair but said the teacher “did it repeatedly to everyone, so I feel like you should probably get fired.”

Chris Hamlet agreed with his son. “If you’re gonna keep the Christian stuff out, then you got to keep the devil-worshiping stuff out, period,” he said.

The devil was not able to be reached for comment.

Missouri Woman Understandably Freaked Out By Nickel-Sized Spider Stuck In Her Ear

An insurance agent in Farmington, Missouri, is taking steps to ensure she never again has the shocking experience she had a few weeks ago: finding out there’s a giant spider living in her ear.

Desirae Kelly’s “eerie” experience happened Oct. 18 when she woke up at 5 a.m. feeling a strange “fluttering” sensation in her right ear, according to People.

At first, Kelly thought the feeling was caused by a tassel on her bed’s comforter, and went to back to sleep. When she awakened again, she considered going to a local urgent care. She said she “almost talked myself out of going because I was like, ‘Oh, it’s all in my head. It was 5 a.m. I was tired.’”

But after her fiancé begged her to have her ear checked, Kelly went to the clinic.

“I’m sitting in the waiting room, and that’s when I felt it move again. It was painful. It felt like something was at the base of my eardrum. In that moment, I was convinced it was wax,” Kelly said. “And then I started crying, one, because it was uncomfortable, but two, I felt embarrassed that now they’re going to look in my ear, tell me it’s wax, tell me to clean my ear out, send me home, and I’m going to get a bill in the mail.”

But that’s not what happened.

Instead, a nurse noticed something in Kelly’s right ear and told her it definitely wasn’t a moth.

“I didn’t even think about it being a moth!” Kelly said. “And [the nurse] goes, ‘It’s curled up in the back.’ And that’s when the fear started to set in.”

The nurse treated Kelly’s ear by irrigating it with water and letting it drain in a bowl under her ear.

“We’re dumping the bowl and we’re dumping, we probably dumped it three times,” Kelly said. “And then she goes over to the sink to refill the water. And while she’s refilling the water bottle, I feel it moving at the back of my ear. And she’s rushing back over and telling me, ‘Put the bowl up to your ear!’”

Kelly said she saw a black object fall out of her ear onto her sweater, which made the nurse step back for a second. Then the nurse started to grab at Kelly’s hoodie.

“I watch something jump from my shoulder to the ground. And then I watch it crawl. And that is when I realized it was a spider and that it was alive,” Kelly said. “I was looking at a live spider, and it wasn’t small. I would say it was about the size of a nickel.”

Kelly said the incident was so traumatic that the nurses “had to give me a bag to throw up in because I was gagging.”

Luckily for Kelly, there was no damage to her eardrum and no medication was needed to stop an infection. In addition, her ear was free of spider parts and eggs, or, as she told Fox News, “extra buddies.”

In a follow-up TikTok, Kelly said the invader was a jumping spider, which are fairly common ― but the experience has affected her in an uncommon way, she told Fox News.

“Every night since that night, I have had earplugs in my ears. I don’t think I could ever sleep without earplugs again,” she said. “That is the most uneasy, violating feeling ever to quite literally feel a spider crawl out of your ear.”

NASA Discovers Asteroid Has Its Own Tiny Moon

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The little asteroid visited by NASA’s Lucy spacecraft this week had a big surprise for scientists.

It turns out that the asteroid Dinkinesh has a dinky sidekick — a mini moon.

The discovery was made during Wednesday’s flyby of Dinkinesh, 300 million miles (480 million kilometers) away in the main asteroid belt beyond Mars. The spacecraft snapped a picture of the pair when it was about 270 miles out (435 kilometers).

In data and images beamed back to Earth, the spacecraft confirmed that Dinkinesh is barely a half-mile (790 meters) across. Its closely circling moon is a mere one-tenth-of-a-mile (220 meters) in size.

NASA sent Lucy past Dinkinesh as a rehearsal for the bigger, more mysterious asteroids out near Jupiter. Launched in 2021, the spacecraft will reach the first of these so-called Trojan asteroids in 2027 and explore them for at least six years. The original target list of seven asteroids now stands at 11.

Dinkinesh means “you are marvelous” in the Amharic language of Ethiopia. It’s also the Amharic name for Lucy, the 3.2 million-year-old remains of a human ancestor found in Ethiopia in the 1970s, for which the spacecraft is named.

“Dinkinesh really did live up to its name; this is marvelous,” Southwest Research Institute’s Hal Levison, the lead scientist, said in a statement.

Oh Deer! Video Shows Critter Crashing Diners' Meals At Wisconsin Restaurant

BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — People go to Noodles & Company to save a buck, not to have one interrupt their meal. But that’s what happened in Beloit, Wisconsin, on Tuesday when a deer came crashing through the restaurant’s window.

Surveillance footage shows a deer charging into the crowded restaurant around lunchtime, prompting diners to scatter. The animal then explored the dining area and kitchen before exiting out a back door opened by an employee, Noodles & Company spokesperson Stephanie Jerome told The Associated Press.

No one was harmed in the incident, and the location has since reopened after a deep clean, Jerome said. The restaurant offered a “2 Buck Mac & Cheese” special on Wednesday to commemorate the incident.
