Cannibal Crocodile Eats Rival After Smashing It Into The Water

A cannibalistic crocodile has been caught on camera chowing down on a rival after what appeared to be a brutal battle in Australia.

Sandra Bell photographed what looked like a killing at the Catfish Waterhole in Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park in Tropical North Queensland over the weekend, reports the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The larger creature, which park staffers believe to be a saltwater crocodile, grabbed its smaller victim in its powerful jaws, shook it around in the air and then smashed it into the water before gulping it down.

Queensland National Parks, or QNP, posted the astonishing sequence of images to Facebook on Tuesday, and they're now going viral.

"It happened just a couple of hundred meters from our warning sign, so it's a good reminder to remember to be croc wise in croc country," the QNP said, with a link to the Queensland government's "Be Croc Wise" advisory webpage that reminds people how to behave around the deadly animals.

The exact breed of the victim is not known, and the QNP later speculated in another post that it may already have been dead when it was attacked.

Crocodiles are cannibalistic, and have been known to eat other crocodiles to control their population.

Male saltwater crocodiles -- or "salties," as they are known in Australia -- typically live for about 70 years in the wild and grow on average to around 17 feet long and weigh 1,000 pounds, according to National Geographic. But it's not uncommon for a salty to weigh up to 2,200 pounds and measure 23 feet.

Filmmakers for National Geographic rigged small boats with GoPros in September. A crocodile attacked the boats, resulting in footage that shows a crocodile attack from the prey's perspective.

Last year, a massive crocodile was filmed fighting a lion over access to a dead elephant at Kenya's Samburu National Reserve.

YouTube Refuses To Remove Sam Pepper's 'Killing Best Friend Prank'

Warning: The contents of this video may be disturbing to some viewers.

By now, you've probably heard about or seen Sam Pepper's "Killing Best Friend Prank" video, where the blue-haired YouTuber pranks Vine user Sam Golbach, whose best friend Colby Brock is in on the joke. By the end of the video, Golbach is emotionally distraught after believing he witnessed a masked stranger execute Brock before his eyes. Hilarious, right? Not so much.

The video has sparked a public outcry in social media circles with many calling for its removal because of the disturbing content, but according to the BBC, YouTube insists that Pepper did not break any of its community guidelines.

For the most part, YouTube is a bastion of free expression, where users of different cultures and creeds can come together and watch sneezing baby panda videos. The site does have some restrictions, however, such as not allowing users to post "harmful or dangerous content" or videos featuring nudity and violence "intended to be shocking, sensational or disrespectful."

People who felt the video did, in fact violate YouTube's terms, expressed their outrage via Twitter.

A Change.org petition calling for YouTube to deactivate Pepper's channel has already accumulated more than 100,000 supporters.

"[Pepper] clearly doesn't understand boundaries or have any respect for those people who have lost their lives and believes that murder can be staged as a prank," the description for the petition reads. "It is disgusting especially as it appears to mirror situations where people really have got killed. Sam Pepper needs to be stopped. This is not his first offense and it won't be his last, unless we stop him."

Golbach, the victim of the prank, posted a statement to his Twitter account Sunday defending Pepper, in which the Viner writes that he is "honestly not mad" because "if anything this made Colby and [his] relationship much stronger because it showed me how much we actually care for one another."

This isn't the first time Pepper has attracted controversy. Six women accused him of sexual assault last October, claims which Pepper vehemently denied

If you need any more evidence of his sketchiness, here's a another terrible Pepper prank where he touches women's butts without permission. Many viewers complained that Pepper was making light of sexual assault.

We think it's about time Pepper put away the camera for good.

The 20 Most Popular Baby Names Of 2015

As we enter the last month of 2015, BabyCenter has released its annual list of the most popular baby names. For the third year in a row, the top three names are Sophia, Emma and Olivia for girls and Jackson, Aiden and Liam for boys.

The 2015 list of popular girl names is mostly the same as last year's -- though Mia has surpassed Isabella for the number five spot, and Madison replaced Madelyn at number 10. The only change on the top 10 boys' names list is Logan's new ranking at number nine, bumping Jacob down to the bottom.

Without further ado, here are the complete rankings, based on the names of over 340,000 babies born in 2015 to parents registered on the BabyCenter website. The data also combines alternative spellings of the names that sound the same.

Most Popular Girl Names

  1. Sophia

  2. Emma

  3. Olivia

  4. Ava

  5. Mia

  6. Isabella

  7. Zoe

  8. Lily

  9. Emily

  10. Madison

Most Popular Boy Names

  1. Jackson

  2. Aiden

  3. Liam

  4. Lucas

  5. Noah

  6. Mason

  7. Ethan

  8. Caden

  9. Logan

  10. Jacob

In addition to compiling the popularity lists, BabyCenter also conducted its annual Baby Names Survey and identified five notable trends in parents' habits.

Royalty

BabyCenter found an interesting "royalty" trend beyond names like George and Charlotte. Many royal title-themed names rose in the popularity rankings, with Duchess up 75 percent, Sultan up 26 percent, King up 10 percent and Princess up 22 percent. Other royal word names that skyrocketed in popularity include Royalty, which increased 90 percent, Reign (a Kardashian name), which jumped up 90 percent and Tiara, up 20 percent.

Instagram

Another interesting trend the survey found is that the names of Instagram filters are also rising in popularity. Examples include Lux (up 75 percent since 2014), Ludwig (up 42 percent, Amaro (up 26 percent), Reyes (up 10 percent), Hudson (up four percent) and Kelvin (up three percent). "Filter names" on the rise for girls include Juno (up 30 percent), Valencia (up 26 percent) and Willow (up 13 percent).

“This is the first time we’ve seen technology break through as a source of name inspiration,” BabyCenter Editor-in-Chief Linda Murray said in the press release for the 2015 rankings. “Photo-sharing is a daily and emotional part of Millennials’ lives, and those two ingredients can trigger love for a name.”

The "Empire" Effect

Based on the BabyCenter survey, character names from the hit show "Empire" have risen rapidly on the popularity charts, with Dre up 77 percent, Lyon up 61 percent and Hakeem up 55 percent. For the first time in three years, the name Luscious appeared in the website's name database as well.

Gender Neutral Baby Names

Many rising baby names were those considered more gender-neutral and jumped up on the boy and girl lists. Celebrity favorite Wyatt went up 84 percent for girls and 11 percent for boys, Lincoln is up 47 percent for girls and 18 percent for boys, Carson increased 39 percent for girls and 14 percent for boys, and Karter went up 45 percent for girls and nine percent for boys.

Additionally, Piper is up 61 percent for boys, Maxwell increased 39 percent for girls, Riley went up 48 percent for girls.

Planets And Stars

Celestial names are on the rise, with Venus up 68 percent, Jupiter up 50 percent, Soleil up 28 percent and Sunny up 43 percent. The name Stella, which means "star" is on the top 100 baby names of the year list.

"In the sixties, celestial baby names had a hippy vibe, but today’s parents are more inspired by planetary science and space travel," said Murray.

Pope Francis Becomes Internet Rap Sensation

His Holiness is the latest hip-hop superstar in this hilarious new meme.

When Pope Francis was pictured picking up a microphone with his other hand stretched out horizontally, people on the Internet thought he looked like a rapper.

And they responded by giving him some lyrics.

The #PopeBars hashtag swept Twitter on Monday, with hundreds of people posting Drake, Eminem and Kanye-style verses underneath the image.

The lyrics include references to religion, the Catholic faith and the Vatican.

The trend even caught the eye of "Scandal" star Kerry Washington, who stepped in to say it's "THE BEST."

Sadly, though, she didn't drop a rhyme herself:

"Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio -- with its opening "as I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" line -- predictably received a lot of love.

As did House of Pain's "Jump Around" and Notorious B.I.G.'s "It was all a dream" lyrics.

Someone even came up with a fake "Holy Ghost" mixtape:

The photograph that sparked the meme was taken by the AFP news agency's Gianluigi Guercia.

Pope Francis was giving his blessing during a visit to a camp for internally displaced people at St. Saviour parish in Bangui, Central African Republic, on Sunday, according to Getty Images.

Francis arrived in the conflict-wracked nation Sunday and, The Associated Press reports, urged the country's Christian and Muslim factions to lay down their weapons and instead arm themselves with peace and forgiveness.

Thanks To These Colorful Condoms, You Can Now Have Art Inside You

Warning: This post contains images of erect ancient sculptures and may be inappropriate for work.

Raise your hand if you've ever heard a dude say he doesn't like to wear condoms. Something about the flesh-colored sacks being so aesthetically dull they just kill the mood. Like, who, in the middle of a hot and heavy make-out sesh wants to take a break, stop looking at the beautiful naked creature in front of them, and set their sights instead on a rubber glove the color of oatmeal?

Thankfully, if you too have felt personally victimized by ugly condoms, a solution is on the horizon. A French startup by the name of Made in Love has crafted a line of artist-made condoms, turning the drab prophylactics into fab objets d'art. Yes, boys, slip on one of these and not only will you be guaranteed a worry-free round of safe sex, but you'll be transforming your member into your own little personal artwork. Or, sorry, very big artwork.

This unusual design venture has merged the two intoxicating realms of art and sex in a way we never really imagined. The revolutionary invention just might overturn the entire art marketplace as we know it. Why own a piece of art when you can be entered by a piece of art? Instead of roaming a museum, or envisioning a Picasso or a Monet on your bedroom walls, why not imagine them adorning your privates? Are art condoms the new dorm posters? What is happening?

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, art condoms are still in the crowdfunding phases of their existence. Made in Love is currently raising funds on the Paris-based crowdfunding platform Kiss Kiss Bank Bank to make these beautiful love gloves a reality. Thus far, artists Maëlle De La Forge, Alex & Marine, Anna Borowski and Lilyloca have contributed their work, consisting mostly of brightly colored abstract designs that make your sexy parts look like they're on their own personal acid trips.

So, next time you're surfing an online dating site and see your potential partner "loves art," you know what to do. Give the lady or lad what she/he needs -- penetration BY ART.

See Made in Love's video below to learn more.

Goatman Is Hairy, Horny … And This Bah-h-hdass Won’t Go Away

A big hairy monster was once hiding under your bed, just like it was hiding under every kid's bed.

But faster than you can say, "Mommy, can I sleep with the light on?" one of these beasts is making a comback, even though you're all grown up now, or so you think.

Goatman -- the half-goat, half-man hybrid -- is the subject of a decades-old urban legend. But now, the Internet thinks he's returned to terrorize Maryland and various other parts of the country.

Goatman sightings have spread across various news outlets within the past week, and the beast was even a trending topic on Facebook.

But has anyone actually seen the Goatman recently?

"There are always 'new' Internet-generated reports of dogmen, goatmen and similar creatures," cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, who has studied 'goat-men' in the past, told HuffPost in an email. "In general, they are not new, but merely recycled."

Legend has it that the Goatman was an experiment gone awry -- a scientist attempting to combine a human and a goat, but accidentally created a murderous creature that got loose and terrorized the streets of Maryland in 1957.

Still, recent Goatman reports appear to be unfounded. News outlets that covered the story linked back to a recent Movie Pilot post, which doesn't mention any recent Goatman sightings.

Other sources include a Cult of Weird post from last year about a book on the topic and a Goatman video posted last year on the YouTube channel Strange Mysteries, but neither report any Goatman sightings within the past week.

Looks like it's just another case of internet hype. People on Twitter didn't seem too psyched about the Goatman legend resurgence either. Many immediately brushed it off as false:

However, that doesn't mean there aren't people out there masquerading as a half-goat, half-man creature. One example is of a hunter who dressed like a goat to blend in with his prey. And earlier this year, a Niagara Falls recycling organization introduced their new mascot named Totes McGoats, who looks eerily like the alleged Goatman.

The recent Goatman buildup is reminiscent of the alleged sightings of the "Jersey Devil" in October -- the Internet was flooded with stories about the Jersey Devil urban legend after a New Jersey man posted a photo of what appeared to be the famed furball in mid-flight.

Jared Leto Vows To Make Jack Nicholson And Heath Ledger 'Proud' As The Joker

Playing The Joker is the acting challenge of a lifetime.

Not only do you have to pull off hideous shades of purple, but you also have to infuse a sense of believability into character so deliciously unhinged from reality. Two actors, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, have skillfully brought the supervillain to life in 1989's "Batman" and 2008's "The Dark Knight," respectively, and now it's Jared Leto's turn.

Leto posted a meme to his Instagram account featuring Nicholson and Ledger dressed in Joker drag with the words "Don't worry Leto will make us proud" emblazoned across the photo. He captioned the picture with a simple green heart.

A photo posted by JARED LETO (@jaredleto) on

Leto will, of course, star as the next incarnation of the iconic comic book villain in "Suicide Squad" and recently revealed what it was like to embody a character with some deep psychological issues

"There was definitely a period of ... detachment," Leto shared with Empire. "I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn't imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole."

Nicholson also described the emotional toll of playing the character and told reporters after Ledger died in 2008 that he actually "warned" the Australian actor about taking on the role, according the New York Daily News

Some believe that Ledger's death was connected to his role, which earned him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Ledger said he reportedly "slept an average of two hours a night" because "[he] couldn't stop thinking" and "[his] mind was still going."

Judging by the trailer, it looks like Leto will deliver the performance of a lifetime. We've got a feeling he'll have his own meme one day.

"Suicide Squad" hits theaters August 5, 2016.

German Man Investigated For Showing Nazi Death Camp Tattoo

BERLIN (AP) — German prosecutors say they are investigating whether a man violated the country's prohibition of the public display of Nazi symbols by appearing at a swimming pool with a tattoo of what appeared to be the Auschwitz death camp on his back.

Neuruppin prosecutors' spokeswoman Lolita Lodenkaemper said Tuesday another bather took a photo of the tattoo, which also carried the slogan from the Buchenwald concentration camp's gate, "Jedem das Seine" — "to each his own" — at a pool in Oranienburg, north of Berlin, on Nov. 21.

She says that having such a tattoo is legal but showing it publicly could be considered incitement.

Lodenkaemper would not confirm local media reports that the suspect is a member of the far-right National Democratic Party and sits on the county council.

Mother Tried To Sell Her Baby Online For Less Than $350

JOHANNESBURG, Nov 30 (Reuters) - A mother pleaded guilty in a South African court on Monday to having tried to sell her baby on the Internet for 5,000 rand ($346), the online news service News24 said.

"I admit that my actions were wrongful, unlawful and intentional. I have no defense," the 20-year-old woman was quoted as saying by News24.

Police said the woman was arrested in October following a tip-off from a member of the public who said that a baby was being sold on the website Gumtree.

She was freed on bail and placed under house arrest. Sentencing will be carried out on Feb. 29 at the Magistrates Court in the eastern town of Pietermaritzburg.

Mysterious Corpse-Filled 'Ghost Ships' Found Drifting Off Japan

Nearly a dozen wooden boats carrying decomposing bodies have been found in the waters off the coast of Japan over the past two months.

Inside the 11 vessels were at least 25 bodies, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK. Two bodies were headless, and one boat contained six skulls, Singapore's Straits Times newspaper reported, citing the Japanese Coast Guard. The poor condition of the remains suggested that the boats had been adrift for some time, the paper said.

One of the boats had a tattered banner that looked like it could have been part of a North Korean flag. The boat also had a board with Hangul words that said "Korean People's Army," which is the name of the armed forces in North Korea.

A maritime expert said the ships looked like those used by defectors from North Korea.

"They are made of wood and are old and heavy," Yoshihiko Yamada told NHK. "They can't travel very fast and the engines are not powerful enough to turn the ships against the currents."

At least some of the ships also contained fishing equipment. One ship examined by NHK had fish hooks, netting and lights for attracting squid, leading some to think that the ghost ships may have been fishing vessels that ran into trouble.

But most experts seem to believe the people on the ships were trying to defect.

"I would say that defectors would be the most likely explanation, and the fact that there have been so many cases in such a short space of time is worrying because it suggests there is serious instability just below the surface in North Korea," Jun Okumura, a visiting scholar at the Meiji Institute for Global Affairs, told the Telegraph.

This Building Won't Stop Screaming, And It's Driving People Nuts

It's been described as a howl, a hum and a scream. But whatever you call the weird sound emanating from a British skyscraper, it's annoying the heck out of the people who live near it.

A new video posted on YouTube shows the eerie -- and incredibly loud -- noises made by Beetham Tower in Manchester every time the wind picks up.

The video was taken on Sunday, when the city faced gale-force winds. Area residents tweeted about the sci-fi sounds coming from the 47-story building:

Architect Ian Simpson has apologized for the building's unintentional sound effects, telling the Manchester Evening News that they're caused by winds rushing over the glass "blade" at the top.

The blade is decorative, Simpson said.

"I am completely aware of the noise because I live at the top of the building," Simpson told the paper in 2012. "I would like to apologize for that and we are looking to address it so that next year we don’t have the same problem."

As the new video shows, the building is as noisy as ever.

Woman Who Duct-Taped Dog's Mouth Shut Could Face Jail Time

This is what happens when you post a photo to Facebook of your dog's mouth duct-taped shut: You get charged with animal cruelty.

Katharine F. Lemansky -- known on Facebook as Katie Brown, among other things -- has been charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty, and faces a fine and up to 150 days in jail.

Lemansky put up the grotesque picture of her dog on Friday, along with the caption, "This is what happens when you don't shut up!!!"

It quickly spread across the Internet, causing so much (perfectly justified) public outrage that police in two states where she was thought to be, Florida and Connecticut, said they were investigating and asked folks to please stop calling them about it.

As it turns out, Lemansky and her dog were in Cary, North Carolina, and that's where she's facing criminal penalties.

“Taping the dog’s muzzle shut was a terrible decision on Ms. Lemansky’s part, and charging her with animal cruelty under North Carolina law was the right thing to do,” said Cary Police Captain Randall Rhyne in a statement

The dog is still with Lemansky, who is due to appear in court on Dec. 14.

Animal control officers examined the dog from the photo, and another in the same home. Both were found to be healthy and well-cared for, "which is why we did not and could not remove them from the owner," said Rhyne.

Luckily, he added, the dog's muzzle didn't seem to be harmed, "not even detectable hair loss.”
