The bubble has burst for Seattle's famous Pike Place Market gum wall, which is set for its first complete cleaning after two decades.
"For the first time in 20 YEARS, I’m due for a total scrub down," reads a message on the gum wall's Facebook page. "Just like you, all that sugar can really mess up the surface of your bricks, er, teeth!"
The gum wall contains "likely more than one million gum wads," according to the the Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority.
The PDA hired Cascadian Building Maintenance to handle the sticky task.
"The machine will melt the gum with 280-degree steam," The Seattle Times reports. "It will fall to the ground, and a two- to three-man crew will collect the gum in five-gallon buckets."
Kelly Foster, who works for the maintenance company, told the newspaper, "This is probably the weirdest job we’ve done."
Following the cleaning, visitors will once again be able to stick their discarded chewing gum on the famous wall, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
The cleaning will take place Nov. 10.
