Authorities responding to the call found "hundreds of prescription pills strewn throughout" the home of Bonnie Pritchard, 46, and Patrick Lampard, 36, according to a Slidell Police Department statement posted on Facebook.
The medications were for patients at Heritage Manor Nursing Home and "packaged in individual baggies, as if someone was preparing to sell them," police said.
Pritchard, a former teacher at Abney Elementary School, and Lampard, who previously worked as director of nursing for the nursing home, confessed to taking the drugs from Heritage Manor. The Times-Picayune reports that police said the duo intended to sell the drugs to pay off a debt and take a trip to Las Vegas.
"Both of these individuals were in positions that require honesty and integrity," Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said in a statement. "They violated the public's trust and will now have to face the consequences of their actions."
The nursing home residents and students were not affected by the incident, police said.
Pritchard and Lampard are each charged with six counts possession of a schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute and five counts possession of a legend drug, among other charges.
