After an awful scare, this man was lucky to have his best friend back for the holidays.
William Leong of North Reading, Massachusetts, contacted police earlier this month, when he found the remains of an animal who resembled his dog, Kona, who had run away a few days prior, WCVB reported. The devastated owner buried what he believed was left of Kona, thinking his pet had been a victim of an animal attack.
But a few days later, Officer Greg Connolly spotted a pooch who matched Kona's description wandering his backyard, according to Yahoo News. Leong, who was immediately notified, rushed to see if the dog was his. The Massachusetts man was delighted to confirm that the mystery pooch was indeed his beloved Kona.
"It was the happiest day of my life," Leong said at a press conference, according to the Boston Globe. "I actually dropped to the ground. I was so shocked."
Kona disappeared when she slipped out of her leash after a walk, WCVB reported. When Leong had called the police to report the remains he found, even the authorities were convinced the dog had died and offered their condolences. So when Leong, who was in New York visiting family at the time, was called to a grooming shop to identify the dog, he was warned of the possibility that the animal might not have been Kona. The dedicated owner drove five hours back to Massachusetts to be delighted with a reunion that, Leong said, made for quite an unforgettable experience.
"It was a roller coaster of emotion," he told the Globe.
