Christians Protest Church Of Lucifer, End Up Fighting Among Themselves

Some Christians are having a little trouble turning the other cheek over the Halloween opening of the Greater Church of Lucifer in Old Town Spring, Texas.

Around 40 protestors showed up on Friday evening, with signs bearing messages like “God Yes, Satan No” and “Satanism is NOT an American value!” Most of the protestors weren’t locals, but had come from around the United States, according to the Houston Press.

But the Luciferians, as they call themselves, aren’t exactly the devil worshipers that some presume them to be. In fact, they don’t worship -- or even recognize -- any greater power at all, their website explains. So what do Luciferians believe?

"Lucifer is a symbol of self-liberated thinking, being different from the herd,” church co-president Michael Ford told the Houston Press.

HopeMarie Ford, also a co-president, added that the church has nothing against Christianity. "We're just about letting people find truth for themselves," she said.

That philosophy apparently isn't one accepted by the protestors, as the Houston Press reported members of two different groups starting arguing over who was doing a better job at following Jesus.

But not all Christians support the protests. “If I were not a Christian and I saw the way some of the people are behaving here, I would not want to be a Christian because I believe God wants us to love these people because He loves them,” local Janet Lynchard, whose daughter owns a business near the church, told ABC 7.
