Daniel Ducret, 37, was arrested Thursday on second-degree theft after employees at a Fry's Electronics store in Wilsonville, Oregon, allegedly saw him sliding small electronics items into the front pouch of his kilt.
The employees said Ducret first showed up in his kilt on Wednesday and allegedly used the pouch to steal items including a toy helicopter, according to OregonLive.com.
When Ducret came back on the next day, staff called Wilsonville Police, who arrested him.
Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy Dan Kraus said officers found an audio car charger and a computer mouse in the pouch of Ducret's kilt, according to Newser.
Ducret's alleged shoplifting is causing an uproar in the kilt-wearing community.
“It gives kilts a bad name,” Jonny McLain, who owns Stumptown Kilts, a store with three locations in Portland, San Francisco and Petoskey, Michigan, told KOIN TV.
Kraus said Ducret's use of a kilt may have been his downfall.
"I don’t think there’s a graceful way to stick stuff inside a kilt,” he told the station.
