Hello and thank you for the insane cat pictures.
Below you will find an example of dog heroism.
A cat in need of protection receives it and a further escalation is avoided. That is obviously good news.
But more needs to be done to get at the root of the problem that caused the initial conflict between the two cats. That dog won't always be around to bail its friend out.
Perhaps the bully cat had a rough upbringing. Maybe there was some sort of traumatic incident in its past that makes it act out violently.
And, though we certainly don't mean to denigrate the character of the bullied cat without further information, it is possible that this gif doesn't tell the whole story. Perhaps there was a provocation before the actions depicted in the gif that help explain the bully cat's behavior.
Let's not rush to judgement, and let's all hope for a peaceful co-existence between these three pets who, like us all, surely have good qualities and bad.

School Playground Evacuated Due To 'Aggressive' Squirrel: Report
A tail of terror or a nutty lie?
Multiple UK publications reported last week that a school playground had to be evacuated earlier this month after an “unusually aggressive” gray squirrel became too much of a threat
The Watford Observer reported that a rampaging squirrel went so far as to scratch a staff member at Chater Infants School, a primary school located in Watford, Hertfordshire.
A statement on the school's website, however, says "no squirrel has ’caused havoc’ or ‘terrified’ children at Chater Infant School" and accuses the Observer of “greatly exaggerating” the event:
Nevertheless, both the Observer and The Evening Standard cite head teacher Amrit Bal-Richards as confirming some sort of squirrel-related incident.
"We did have an incident where we had a squirrel,” Bal-Richards said, according to the Watford Observer. The publication says she noted that aggression is “very uncommon” in squirrels and that the school would “be monitoring the situation.”
Whatever happened, no one has seen the critter since.

We did have a curious and bold squirrel in the playground during Golden Time a few weeks ago; I would like to assure you that the children were not at risk. If there had been a serious concern I would have written to you immediately. The teachers and I spoke to the children in assembly about how to behave around pets and other animals.
There is no substance to this article, it is poorly written and greatly exaggerates an occurrence in the playground . I am sorry if this has caused you any concern.

Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog Groans, Coughs (PHOTO)
New Frog Species Does Not Croak, Makes Un-Froglike Sounds @weatherchannel http://t.co/YWmlKgP6bt

Story below ...
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) — Scientists have discovered a new frog species in southern New Jersey that makes some un-froglike sounds.
The Atlantic Coast leopard frog groans and makes coughing noises rather than croaking sounds. The unfamiliar call attracted the notice of wildlife experts several years ago in Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County.
They photographed the frog and concluded it wasn't the northern leopard frog or southern leopard frog.
The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill (http://on.cpsj.com/1y3CQKH) reports a Rutgers University-led team recently identified the species in an online scientific journal. Experts say it shows that the state's marshes and swamps are valuable to wildlife, even in urban or suburban areas.
The frog has been found along the Delaware River and bay, the Atlantic Ocean coastline, in the Meadowlands and New York's Staten Island.

Teen Clocks In At 127 MPH On Highway: Cops
NORTHFIELD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire State Police say an airborne patrol unit clocked a man driving 127 miles per hour on Interstate 93 in the town of Northfield.
The State Police Special Enforcement Unit was using an airplane to monitor traffic Saturday morning when the trooper in the aircraft saw a northbound vehicle traveling quickly.
Police say the tactical flight officer twice clocked the vehicle traveling in excess of 100 mph, the fastest at 127 mph.
The driver, stopped by troopers on the ground, was identified as 19-year-old Ryan Quinn of Newport, Rhode Island.
Quinn was charged with reckless driving and two counts of possession of a controlled drug. He's due to appear in Franklin District Court in January.
No phone listing for Quinn could be found.

Alleged Shoplifters Drove In Circles In Parking Lot: Cops
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Folks who live near Idaho's western border may complain about Oregon drivers, but a pair charged with shoplifting in Nampa on Thanksgiving made police officers' jobs a lot easier this week.
After reports of ongoing shoplifting, Nampa officers responded to a busy parking lot full of holiday shoppers. When they tried to arrest Gregory Redner and Camilla Hunt, both of Oregon, the pair fled.
Police say Hunt ran to a car and drove away. Given the potential threat to public safety, the police declined to pursue her in the busy parking lot.
But Hunt didn't make an escape. Instead, she drove in circles.
Police laid a spike strip down and Hunt drove over it, deflating two of her tires.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/11EqeNu ) the pair face multiple charges.

Driver Says He Fled Car Crash To Get Away From Yelling Girlfriend: Cops
VINELAND, N.J. (AP) — Police in New Jersey say a man told officers he fled the scene of an auto accident because he "didn't want to deal with his girlfriend yelling at him."
They say David Scarpa was having an argument with his girlfriend Sunday night when he backed into a utility pole in Cumberland County. The caller who reported the hit-and-run said he heard people "yelling" and then heard a bang and saw debris on the ground by the pole.
Police say the 21-year-old Scarpa then took off and didn't report the accident immediately.
Scarpa went to police headquarters to turn himself in Monday.
Police tell The Press of Atlantic City (http://bit.ly/12cW6ss) that Scarpa has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

Printing 3D Sex Toys At UPS Is Now A Reality
At UPS, you might be able to pick up a different kind of package.
The company began offering 3D printing services over the past couple of months, and UPS rules don’t explicitly prohibit customers from using those printers to create sex toys, intrepid reporters at the Daily Dot learned this week.
A UPS representative told the site they won’t allow patrons to print out items like weapons or anything that’s the intellectual property of someone else. When the Daily Dot asked about sex toys, the rep said there’s no company-wide rule against them, but since each store is individually owned, the owners of a particular store could make their own anti-erotic policy.
The site also points out there are already websites available that offer free downloadable sex toy patterns for 3D printers.
Printable sex toys are nothing new, but being able to just pop by a UPS store (assuming you live near one of the 100 locations currently offering 3D printing) certainly adds a level of convenience.
Pricing for the printing service depends on the size and complexity of whatever you’re printing out. CNN reports that an iPhone case would cost around $60, while a replica femur bone would set you back about $325.
And hey, if 3D printing isn’t your thing, but you still want something customizable, you can always get a plaster cast of your (or someone else's!) penis.

Alleged Oinking Menace Gives Flying Pigs
WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) -- This was a pig that truly could not fly.
The pig was ordered off a U.S. Airways plane at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut on Wednesday after crewmembers determined the animal had become disruptive, said Laura Masvidal, a spokeswoman for U.S. Airways parent American Airlines said Friday. The pig had been brought aboard the flight by a passenger as an emotional support animal, Masvidal said. She said both the pig and its owner left the aircraft before it took off. She had no other details and did not immediately know where the flight was headed.
Jonathan Skolnik, a University of Massachusetts professor who was on the flight, told ABC News that he initially thought the female passenger was carrying a duffel bag.
"But it turns out it wasn't a duffel bag. We could smell it and it was a pig on a leash," he said.
The woman sat in an empty seat next to him and tethered the pig -- which he estimated weighed 50-70 pounds -- to the arm rest, but the animal began walking back and forth, Skolnik said.
Emotional support animals are allowed on commercial flights under U.S. Department of Transportation rules as long as they are not disruptive, Masdival said.

Stone Age Axe Discovered Stuck Into The Ground With Handle Still Attached
Archaeologists have unearthed an incredibly rare flint axe from the Stone Age that just may have been used in an ancient ritual.
The 5,500-year-old discovery -- found jammed into the Earth with its wooden handle still attached -- was part of an ongoing excavation on the island of Lolland in Denmark.
"When we suddenly realized that we had actually found most of a complete hafted [with its handle still attached] axe, stuck 30 centimeters down into the seabed, we knew that this was a very special find," Søren Anker Sørensen, an archaeologist at the Museum Lolland-Falster involved in the excavation, said in a written statement.

A paddle, two bows, and 14 axe shafts were found nearby, all of which were standing upright. The researchers believe these artifacts were lodged into the ground deliberately, perhaps as sacrificial offerings.
The museum hopes to uncover more artifacts that may hold clues to such ancient rituals by continuing its excavation for another year or so, until construction begins on a new underwater tunnel that will link Lolland to the German island of Fehmarn.
Earlier this month, a set of ancient human footprints were found as part of the ongoing excavation.

Monkey On The Loose In Florida Has Cops Working 'Tirelessly'
TAMPA, Fla. (Reuters) - Florida authorities vowed on Friday to capture a monkey last seen running through a Tampa neighborhood that they described as "three-foot tall, brown and fast."
A resident initially reported seeing a fleet-footed monkey running through a yard in the middle of a sunny Thanksgiving Day afternoon, Tampa police said.
An hour later, another caller spotted a monkey about a dozen blocks away, near a bridge on a road that is several miles (km) from downtown Tampa.
"There is no probable cause for this monkey's arrest, however, we will work tirelessly to apprehend him," Tampa police said in a Facebook post.
Both sightings occurred near Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo, whose officials told police that its monkeys were all accounted for.
With some on social media questioning whether the primate was a monkey or a chimpanzee, Tampa police clarified that the exact species was unknown, but that the sightings appeared to be credible.

Florida State Trooper Brad Wagner Saves Woman Being Strangled By Own Seatbelt
A woman in Brooksville, Florida, is happy to be alive after a state trooper saved her from being strangled by her seatbelt on Thursday evening.
The 38-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, became entangled in the passenger side seatbelt of her 2010 Toyota when her 4-year-old daughter put the seatbelt around the woman's neck to protest being put in a child seat.
The seatbelt then locked in place, squeezing the woman's neck and making it difficult to breathe.
Although her husband tried to remove the seatbelt, his efforts only tightened it more, according to BayNews9.com.
The woman was nearly unconscious by the time her husband was able to flag down Florida State Trooper Brad Wagner for help.
Wagner cut the strangling seatbelt and was able to help the victim start breathing again, WTSP reports.
After EMTs checked the woman out, she was allowed to continue on her way, MyFoxTampaBay.com reports.
No word on if the girl was punished for almost causing her mother's suffocation.

DUI Suspect Allegedly Drinks Vodka While Being Questioned By Cop
This was the Absolut* worst move she could make.
Florida woman France Riney, 60, is facing a DUI charge after she allegedly sat behind the wheel of a parked car and drank vodka while a St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputy tried to question her, TC Palm reports.
The deputy responded to a call about a woman who “appeared out of it” in a parked vehicle at the American Legion at around 5:40 p.m. on Nov 16. According to an affidavit, Riney was in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition, but the car wasn’t running.
When the deputy asked Riney for her license, she allegedly handed him a bag of chips, then a bottle of water. When the deputy informed her the item in her hand was not her license, she allegedly picked up a bottle of vodka and took a swig.
Despite the fact that she was not actually driving, Riney, whose blood alcohol content measured at more than twice the legal limit, was charged with a driving under the influence.
Riney, however, is far from being the only alleged drunk driver who has made the worst decisions after getting confronted by a cop.
Last year, a Rhode Island woman was pulled over for alleged drunk driving and told the arresting officer that, “I just want to cuddle.” She allegedly added that she didn’t drink and drive “often” or she would be better at it.
That same year, a teacher in Florida allegedly drunkenly crashed her van into a pickup truck, then offered to perform oral sex on a cop.
And in 2012, a Delaware driver tried to blame a car accident on an “elephant” he said ran into the road. Police, who apparently didn't buy the big gray excuse, charged him with his 7th DUI.
DISCLAIMER We have no idea what the vodka brand in question was.

Jacklyn Blake Stabbed Boyfriend Who Ate Thanksgiving Meal Without Her: Cops
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania woman chased her boyfriend around a dining room and stabbed him in the chest because he started eating Thanksgiving dinner while she slept off a bender.
Authorities say Jacklyn Blake confessed to officers who responded to her Wilkes-Barre (WILKS'-ba-ree) home Thursday. Officers found her boyfriend inside holding a towel over his chest. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The 47-year-old Blake is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, reckless endangerment and making terroristic threats. It wasn't clear if she has a lawyer.
According to police, Blake's boyfriend says she'd been drunk earlier in the day and attacked him after waking up from a nap. He says she stabbed him and then threw the knife, striking him just below the left eye.

Savannah Turachak Accidentally Dropped Cocaine On Police Station Floor: Cops
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a woman being cited for public drunkenness in Pennsylvania accidentally dropped a baggie of crack cocaine on the police station floor.
Uniontown police say 23-year-old Savannah Turachak, of Lemont Furnace, was patted down for weapons but not otherwise searched when she was brought to the station Nov. 19. That's because police were just citing and releasing her.
But police say Turachak returned moments later to report being harassed by someone and, in the process, fluffed her shirt to straighten it out — and the drugs fell out.
Surveillance video shows she tried to pick up the bag but instead left it when three other people walked in. Police found it a short time later and charged her.
Online court records don't list an attorney for Turachak.

7 Foods That Will Settle Your Stomach After A Night Of Overeating
It was the night of Thanksgiving and you overate. You are not alone. According to the Calorie Control Council, Americans eat, on average, nearly 3,000 calories and 229 grams of fat during this festive meal.
First things first, take a deep breath. You did no wrong by overeating, and it's important to let yourself off the hook. For however many slices of pie you ingested last night, you probably let out a lot of laughs, shared a lot of love and enjoyed the company of family and friends. Do your best to stop beating yourself up over one night of extra calories.
If you're experiencing the physical consequences of sampling all seven stuffings, there are foods you can eat to help soothe your stomach and make digestion a little easier. Here's what to do:

Oregon Police Dog Fired For Bad Performance
CANNON BEACH, Ore. (AP) — A 2-year-old Belgian Malinois was supposed to be the ninth member of the police force in the Oregon coastal town of Cannon Beach, but "Cash" just didn't have what it takes.
The dog was dismissed from the force before seeing any action or gaining any glory.
Cash was skittish, afraid of heights and had a barking problem. Noises would scare him. When he had to jump onto counters in search of drugs, he showed too much resistance.
He would often bark aggressively rather than go straight to the drugs.
Barking is "fine as an alert, but you can't get anything done when you're trying to get him to find dope and he's just barking in your face," said Officer Josh Gregory, the dog's former handler, told the Daily Astorian (http://bit.ly/1HCFH1x).
"That's not the temperament we wanted to set for Cannon Beach," Police Chief Jason Schermerhorn said.
Cash was returned to his original owner, Tami Schultz of Clatsop County Search and Rescue, and the Cannon Beach Police Department is searching for a replacement.
They're looking for a "ball-crazy, happy, wanting-to-work dog," said Gregory, who will spend two to three weeks training with the dog after taking it into his care. "(We) basically learn how to dance together."
The department acquired Cash after raising $27,000 for the K-9 officer program earlier this year.
Gregory and the Washington County trainer tried to train Cash for four weeks, between September and October, before giving up on him. "Where other dogs were progressing, he wasn't progressing," Gregory said.

Complete Tiny Dinosaur Skeleton Discovered In South Korea
A tiny dinosaur about the size of a house cat was recently discovered in South Korea.
The dinosaur's fossilized remains span about 11 inches, but scientists told Korea JoongAng Daily that it was likely about 20 inches long when it was alive.
“Based on the findings so far, we assume that the dinosaur is something close to a microraptor or others in the raptor genera,” Lim Jong-deock, chief curator of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, told the news agency. “However, it’s uncertain at this stage exactly which type of dinosaur it was, and there is a chance that it is a new type that hasn’t been reported to academia as of yet.”
(Story continues below image.)
An illustration of a microraptor, which the dinosaur fossil closely resembles.
The tiny dino is a theropod, a family of carnivorous dinosaurs that includes Tyrannosaurus rex. That means it had sharp teeth and claws--only a whole lot smaller. And if it is indeed a microraptor, it would also have had four wings.
The dinosaur lived during the Cretaceous period, which ended some 66 million years ago with the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction event.
“The way this dinosaur has been fossilized is unique in that it was discovered with its vertebrae connected to its ribs,” the institute told the Korea Times.
The institute also said there may be another fossilized dinosaur in the rock next to this one. Whatever the dinosaur turns out to be, it's the first complete dinosaur skeleton found in South Korea, and among the smallest dinosaur fossils ever found in the country.
"It is difficult for a small dinosaur to become fossilized and such fossils are very rare across the world," an unnamed researcher from the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage told Korea.net. "We need to conduct further research into whether the fossil is related to the Minisauripus, whose footprints were discovered in the southern areas of Gyeongsangnam-do."

Brawny Brewers Bare (Nearly) All
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — If hops make you hot, and you like your men like your beer — stout — these guys have just the thing for you.
A group of brawny, bearded brewers from the Sheboygan area has posed mostly nude for a calendar that is raising money for charity.
The 2015 Brew Men Calendar features 11 brewing professionals from 3 Sheeps Brewing, 8th Street Ale Haus and Plymouth Brewing Co. Proceeds from the calendar, which can be bought online or at various bars, grocers and liquor stores in Wisconsin and northern Illinois, will be donated to the Movember Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on men's health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer.
Unsurprisingly, the idea came about when they were enjoying a few beers. After Kurt Jensen, owner of 8th Street Ale Haus, began talking to some of his brewing buddies about doing charity work, the group of beer-lovers eventually came up with something similar to a swimsuit calendar.
Grant Pauly, founder of 3 Sheeps, said he hopes the calendars will raise awareness and stimulate conversations about men's health, he told Sheboygan Press Media (http://shebpr.es/1xTr2us ).
"I was down in Chicago when someone who saw the group photo on our Facebook page came up to me and we ended up having a 20 minute conversation," he said.
The photos were shot in early October by a professional photographer who doubles as a beer enthusiast. Each month of the calendar depicts a different step of the brewing process.
Jensen said convincing the guys to take off their clothes for a good cause was easier than he expected, and Pauly agreed.
"Putting the calendar together, that was pretty easy," said Pauly. "We have the most difficult part ahead; getting the word out."
The calendar marks the first fundraising effort of Brewers Against Bad Things, a group that Pauly and Jensen recently founded to raise money for charitable causes.

This Cat Learned To Flush the Toilet - Can You? (VIDEO)
This... is purrrfection.
We've found a cat who not only uses a human toilet, but can flush it all on his own when he's finished. The cat's name is Tora-chan. The first video begins with Tora-chan checking out where his business will land.
Tora uses the toilet perfectly:
After a little prompting, the cat leaps to the edge of the bathtub and presses the specially modified handle of the toilet like an old pro.
A second video records Tora-chan in flushing action.
Tora flushes the toilet:
In typical cat fashion, Tora apparently now also flushes the toilet to express that it's time to be fed.

9-Year-Old Girl Charged With Battery For Allegedly Punching Sister
Apparently a “time out” isn’t cutting it anymore.
A 9-year-old girl in Indianapolis was arrested and charged with battery last weekend after her mother called police and reported she had punched her 6-year-old sister in the head, Fox 59 reports.
Andrea Stumpf, the girls' mother, filmed the incident and showed the responding officer, according to WTHR. That officer then “made the decision to arrest,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Rafael Diaz told Fox 59.
Rick Whitten, executive director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, spoke with the station about the significance of keeping children out of the criminal justice system if possible.
“We know that the younger kids get involved in the juvenile justice system, the more likely they are to keep getting involved with the system,” he said.
Earlier this year, a father in Wisconsin incited criticism and mockery after he filed for a restraining order against a 5-year-old boy he said was bullying his daughter.
In Canada, however, officials took a more moderate approach to child discipline in September after a pajama-clad 9-year-old boy stole a city bus and took it on a three block joyride. Because of his young age, they opted not to charge him.

84-Year-Old's Date With Teen Twins Turns Into Nightmare: Cops
An 84-year-old New Yorker's date with two 17-year-old twin sisters ended with the senior citizen tied up and robbed, according to police.
The New York Times reports that Paul Aronson met up with 17-year-old Shaina Foster last month through SeekingArrangement.com, a sugar daddy site that bills itself as a place “where beautiful, successful people fuel mutually beneficial relationships,” according to the Times.
After a first date, Shaina brought her twin sister Shalaine along to the second. The trio dined at an "expensive restaurant" and then Aronson invited them back to his apartment for a drink, court documents said.
That's when Shaina told authorities things got out of hand.
“He asked to do things I wasn’t going to do,” she told Detective Darryl Ng. “He is ugly, old and disgusting. I tied him up. I took his money and left. He was starting to creep me out.”
The New York Daily News reports that the sisters allegedly tied Aronson up with zip ties, stole $420 worth of cash from his wallet and took his credit card. They then went on a shopping spree and bought makeup, police said.
Shaina Foster told authorities she was surprised Aronson called police.
"The old man reported me? I don’t understand why he reported me," she said, according to court documents.
The New York Post reports that on Wednesday, Shalaine Foster's lawyer said his client was brought along by her sister and didn't take part in any of the crimes her sister allegedly committed.
"There’s always that story of the good twin and the bad twin, who goes right and who goes wrong,” Brian Kennedy said. ”My client Shalaine was always going right but it seems she got caught up in something that was not of her making.”
The pair are charged with kidnapping, burglary, robbery, assault and grand larceny. They are being held without bail.
The age of consent in New York is 17, which may at least partially explain why Aronson isn't facing any charges.

Ugly Christmas Tree Getting Single Red Bulb
READING, Pa. (AP) — A much-maligned public Christmas tree in Pennsylvania is getting the Charlie Brown treatment.
Officials in Reading (RED'-ing) say the spindly branches will be decorated with a single red ornamental bulb — just like the scrawny tree in the beloved "Peanuts" holiday tale. Officials say they hope the symbol will remind people of the deeper meaning of the season.
Residents of the small city complained the puny pine was ugly when it was first erected and topped with a lighted pretzel. Leaders then made arrangements for a better tree, and workers removed decorations from the original.
But the logistics became complicated, and Reading ended up keeping the unattractive tree.
On Wednesday, the city issued a statement saying the 50-foot Norwegian pine would get one ornament during a rededication ceremony Dec. 6.

Regina Shaw Accused Of Stealing $6,400 Worth Of Sausage
A woman accused of stealing $6,400 worth of sausage from her employer isn't coming out a wiener.
Regina Shaw, 45, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony theft between $1,500-$20,000 for an alleged sausage heist that took place Sept. 14 at the Kiolbassa Provision Company, where she was employed, KSAT reports.
Surveillance footage allegedly recorded Shaw taking a “pallet of meat product” from her place of work. She then allegedly sold a portion of the meat to a man named Peter Medellin, according to The Smoking Gun.
Medellin identified Shaw in a photo lineup and told police he accepted "more kielbasa" as payment for a loan he had given the accused.
A police affidavit did not specify how much meat was sold to Medellin nor how she managed to steal a whole pallet of sausage in the first place.
Shaw lost her job at the company the same day she was arrested.
She was taken to the Bexar County Jail and released after posting a $5,000 bail.

Florida Robbers Who Make Victims Strip Still On The Loose
Investigators in Broward County, Florida, are stumped by a rash of armed robberies where the suspects make their victims, including a pregnant woman, take off their clothes.
There have been five such robberies in the past two months, the last one taking place Monday night at a Subway restaurant in Margate, Florida.
Witnesses said two men wearing ski masks robbed the restaurant at about 11:15 p.m, and at least one of the men was armed.
After collecting an undisclosed amount of money, the suspects made the on-duty clerk take off her clothes. The victim was eight months pregnant, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
“It seems to be that is their strategy, to take their clothes off,” Keyla Concepcion of the Broward Sheriff’s Office told NBC Miami.
In one incident that took place Oct. 31 at a Pompano Beach convenience store, the suspects shot a man in the leg because they accused him of lying about how much money he had on the premises.
All of the robberies have been caught on camera. Both suspects are believed to be between 20-25 years old, but one appears to be about 5 feet, 9 inches while the other is 5 feet, 7 inches, NBC Miami reports.
One suspect appears to have long dreads held back by a rubber band, according to a release by the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact the Broward County Sheriffs Office at (954) 321-4270 or anonymously to Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

3,500-Year-Old Dagger Found Being Used As A Doorstop
One person's trash turned out to be a national treasure.
Back in 2002, a farmer leaving near East Rudham, Norfolk, in the United Kingdom, dug up a large bronze object that looked like a bent sword.
Not thinking much of it, the unnamed farmer used it as a doorstop for 12 years before deciding to throw it away, according to Dr. Tim Pestell, senior curator of archaeology at Norwich Castle.
"He was prepared to throw it in the skip when a friend told him to take it to be identified,” Pestell told BT.com. "Straight away they knew it was significant."
The farmer's doorstop turned out to be a 27-inch ceremonial dagger that experts believe is about 3,500 years old. Experts dubbed the dagger the Rudham Dirk and say it is of "incredible importance," according to UPI.com.
Experts at the National Heritage Memorial Fund said the dagger is about three times the size of a normal dagger and too heavy to be used as a weapon.
Because the blade was never sharpened and there are no rivet holes for a handle, it was most likely used for ceremonial purposes, as an offering to the gods.
"This is almost certainly the reason why it was found bent in half, deliberately folded as part of the object’s ritual ‘destruction’ before its burial, a practice well known from Bronze Age metalwork," according to a National Heritage Memorial Fund.
Only five other daggers like the Rudham Dirk have been found in Europe.
Pestell was adamant about the dagger remaining in the UK, so he has been negotiating with the farmer for nearly a year.
With the help of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Pestell was able to offer nearly $65,000 for the dagger.
It will be permanently housed at the Norwich Castle Museum, close to where it was found.
That pleases Sophie Cabot, president of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society.
“We’re really excited -- it would have been a great shame if we’d have lost it,” she said, according to EDP24.

Back in 2002, a farmer leaving near East Rudham, Norfolk, in the United Kingdom, dug up a large bronze object that looked like a bent sword.

OSTON (AP) — A Boston man who police say fell naked through the ceiling of a women's bathroom at Boston's airport and then assaulted an elderly man has been ordered held without bail pending a hearing next week.
Cameron Shenk was arraigned Wednesday on charges that include attempted murder, assault and battery on a person over 60, and lewd and lascivious conduct.
Police say the 26-year-old Shenk fell through the ceiling at about noon Saturday. He had allegedly sneaked into the bathroom, undressed inside a stall and climbed into the ceiling crawl space. Police say he then fled the bathroom and assaulted an 84-year-old man.
Shenk's lawyer said he is a student studying economics at Harvard Extension School and has no history of mental illness.
A hearing to determine whether he is dangerous to the public is scheduled Monday.

Pet Massage Is Sweeping The Nation
PHOENIX (AP) — Spa treatments don't stop with people. You won't see any aromatherapy candles around, but animals get massages, too, and it's become a regular service that many pet owners value as more than just glorified petting.
"People call me because their dogs are having problems," said Shelah Barr, a San Francisco dog massage therapist. "The work I do is important for animals so they have a high quality of life."
Practitioners say massage can be a preventive measure for younger animals and rehabilitative for older ones by boosting flexibility, circulation and immunity. As its popularity continues to grow, primarily among dog and horse owners, so does the debate about regulation. Some veterinarians argue that pet massage is a form of veterinary medicine that requires a license, but whether therapists need one varies by state. The issue has sparked a lawsuit in Arizona, where three practitioners are suing the state veterinarian licensing board.
Pet owners spent $4.4 billion last year on "other services," a category that includes grooming, training and services such as massage, according to the American Pet Products Association, which tracks national spending trends in the pet industry. That is a 6.1 percent jump from 2012.
Massage sessions can last 30-40 minutes, and therapists travel to homes, hotels and even an owner's workplace, said Barr, who has been practicing in San Francisco since 2006.
"There are a couple of tech companies I go to. They have a quiet office I can go into and work on the animal," said Barr, who typically sees about 15 pets a week.
The treatments don't necessarily mean incense burning around a massage table. Barr is guided by what the dog desires, which sometimes means the pet chews on a bone the whole time.
Grace Granatelli, an animal masseuse in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale, said she would play new-age music or "spa sounds," which help relax dogs.
In her sessions, Granatelli would have the dog lie down on the floor or its bed and start by massaging its neck. She would then move to other areas, including legs and hips. But it's not crucial that the dog lie down or sit still.
"There are times where the dog is either very distracted or anxious or isn't quite receptive," Granatelli said. "So I just do the best I can doing the strokes while they're standing — whatever I can do to get the strokes in and get some relaxation in their muscles."
That was until Granatelli became one of three animal massage practitioners who received cease-and-desist letters from the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board earlier this year. The trio has sued the board, arguing that the statute is overly broad in defining veterinary medicine. They are not practicing while the lawsuit moves through the courts.
The board says "I was doing more than just pampering dogs and that was breaking laws," Granatelli said.
The American Veterinary Medical Association classifies animal massage as a form of veterinary care that should require a license. It is up to each state's veterinary licensing board whether to categorize it that way.
"We do consider them veterinary procedures, and we feel the same standards should be used because a lot of harm can come from them," association assistant director Adrian Hochstadt said.
Carol Forrest, a former client of Granatelli's, said her Dachshunds, Maxie and Lucy, got regular massages for five years. The two, who have since passed away, were able to relax after a massage despite dealing with issues such as arthritis. Forrest said she truly believes massage benefits dogs as much as people.
"It's like if you go to one regularly that you like, they get to know you and you get a better treatment out of it," she said. "The same goes for the dogs ... versus going to the vet — my dogs aren't relaxed at the vet."

Rosie Skinner Eats 2 Large Sponges A Week
Some people get cravings for chocolate, chicken wings or pickles.
Rosie Skinner, 19, craves sponges -- at least two a week.
Skinner, who hails from the UK town of Epsom, Surrey, cuts each sponge into small pieces and then sucks on each chunk throughout her day.
She even satisfies her spongy craving during class lectures at Reigate Sixth Form College, where she is a student.
"I have always loved the smell of a wet sponge. I crave that damp taste and feeling in my mouth," she said, according to the Irish Mirror. "I like the texture as well, it's a bit like eating cake. I might try one with some icing on one day. If I have a stressful day I love to treat myself to snack on a sponge to relax."
Skinner's taste for sponges began when she was 5. There have been times when, like most sponges, her addiction got her in hot water.
She once lost a tooth while eating a sponge and had to explain to her mom how that happened.
When she was 13, doctors had to remove a large ball of sponge that was stuck in her stomach.
"It was a bit of a weird situation. I started having stomach aches and then they developed into really severe pains," she said, according to the Express. "I was rushed to the hospital where doctors removed a ball the size of a small mouse from my stomach."
Although the doctors told Skinner to stop eating sponges, she admits that's hard for her to stomach.
"I tried to do what the doctors told me, but I can't fight my cravings entirely. Now I just chew it for a while and spit it out," she told the Medavia News Agency.
Skinner's compulsion to eat sponges has a name: Pica. It's an eating disorder where people have a desire to eat items with little or no nutritional value, including stones, sand, paint or even hair.
The disorder can lead to extreme emergencies.
Earlier this year, Ayperi Alekseeva, an 18-year-old girl in Batken, Kyrgyzstan went through a hair-raising medical procedure in order to have a nine-pound hairball removed from her stomach.
Skinner is embarrassed by the disorder, but isn't ready to squeeze sponge-eating from her life.
"I would like to quit, but I still haven't grown out of the habit yet," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "I thought about buying a proper luxury sponge from the sea, but that would be taking things too far.
"I'm not very confident doing it around people -- I know it's weird. My family and my boyfriend, Callum, think I'm mad, but I don't mind, it's just part of who I am.'

What Happens To Your Body When You Stuff Yourself Like A Turkey On Thanksgiving
It's Thanksgiving, and you know what that means -- it's time to unbuckle your belt and go to town on a plate piled high with holiday fare.
And if you're like us, you'll wind up more stuffed than your holiday turkey (or tofurkey, for you vegetarians)--and coping with stomach pain or bloating.
Why does overeating cause those symptoms? And what's the chemistry behind dyspepsia? For answers, check out the video above. It's the latest installment of the American Chemical Society's Reactions series.

New Breed Of French Protester: Sheep
PARIS (AP) — Disgruntled farmers have brought their sheep to the Eiffel Tower to protest wolf attacks, and what they call the government's anti-farmer environmental policies.
The woolly protesters munched grass near the Paris monument while their owners urged tougher measures against wolf attacks. The government says its existing plan on preventing attacks and compensating farmers is sufficient. Authorities also want to ensure protections for wolves. The march Thursday came as President Francois Hollande spoke at an environmental meeting about plans for cleaner energy and France's plans to host the U.N. Climate Change Conference next year.
Protester Franck Dieny said government policies — which include large subsidies to agriculture — are less and less farmer-friendly and "don't recognize ... the role we play maintaining the landscape" that so many visitors to France appreciate.

How Thanksgiving Tables And Traditions Got That Way
When it comes to setting our Thanksgiving table, most of us know very little about the history of the elements that decorate our tables. We spoke to Jim Baker, the author of "Thanksgiving: The Biography of an American Holiday," Richard Pickering, the Plimoth Plantation's deputy director and Amy Traverso, the senior lifestyle editor of Yankee Magazine for a mini-crash course in how our tables got this way -- and some myths about the first Thanksgiving.
The First Celebrations Were Held At Multiple Tables.
The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth, oil on canvas by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe (1914).
Credit: Wikicommons
"If you Google pilgrim paintings... there are these gorgeous 1930s paintings of Pilgrims sitting at a very long table and these beautiful Pilgrim women walking along the table with steaming turkeys, and there are a couple Native people sitting on the ground at the end of the table," says Pickering. "Actually, you’ve got 48 people surviving the first winter in Plymouth, and at a minimum there are 95 Native men accompanying [them.]" Pickering says that at that feast, since there were so many more Native Americans there than we have imagined, they would most likely be dining in small groups, rather than one large table.
The Cornucopia Is Older Than You Think.
Those horns filled with fruits and vegetables you see on many Thanksgiving tables are actually a symbol from Greek mythology, displaying a magical goat's horn, which could be filled with whatever the owner wished. The word cornucopia originated from cornu copiae, meaning "horn of plenty" in Latin, and its first known use was in 1508.
Baker estimates that the cornucopia first appeared in glass, pottery and silver in the late 19th century, while basket versions arrived in the 20th century.
Corn Might Mean More Than The Turkey, Symbolically-Speaking.
Traverso says that corn saved the lives of the first settlers during their first harsh year in the country. Since many of their other crops essentially failed (including bean crops), corn became a saving grace, mostly because they were taught how to properly grow it. "The symbol of the corn is so significant because the corn is what saved the pilgrims from starvation," says Traverso. "They really didn’t know how to farm in this climate. It was Indian corn, as they called it, which was taught to them by the Native Americans living at the time... that kept them alive."
Even At The First Thanksgiving, Sports Were Entertainment.
"In the one eyewitness description that we have of this event, there is just as much emphasis on the sports and just as much emphasis on the military practices as the dining," Pickering says. "It was an opportunity for the English men -- now that their agricultural labors were put aside -- to be able to muster and practice, because they were also soldiers now. There's no one else to defend them but themselves." Pickering says games such as running races and pitching the bar were played during the first celebration.

Baby And Sloth's Unexpected Friendship Makes Perfectly Adorable Sense
The unlikely friendship between a baby and a sloth is stealing the Internet's heart, and it's easy to see why.
Alia, a 5-month-old girl, and Daisy, a 9-month-old sloth, have been inseparable. They reportedly play, cuddle, take naps and go for walks together.
"They are so sweet together," Alia's mom, Julia Heckathorn, told BuzzFeed. (Story continues below.)

The pair have hardly known life apart. Heckathorn and her husband Jason adopted Daisy the same day they came home from the hospital with newborn Alia, and the bond between critter and cutie continues to grow. It gets even more adorable, too, if that's possible.
"Daisy is really coming into her own and developing a fun personality, just as Alia is," Heckathorn told The Huffington Post.
Heckathorn is the author of "Search For The Hidden Clover," an animal adventure series. It features Daisy and the rest of Heckathorn's menagerie, which includes a kangaroo, an anteater and four sugar glider possums. They accompany Heckathorn when she visits schools to reinforce her message of caring for the planet.
She told HuffPost that while her pets are licensed for educational purposes, she does not promote exotic animal ownership. The responsibilities are enormous, she said.
And, she said, she's careful about supervising Alia and Daisy when they are together.
"I'm always there to make sure that everyone is safe," she said. "Daisy is still an animal, and they are still both babies, so you never know if one day one of the babies will decide to get feisty."
