Mark Ruffalo is about to blow your mind.

While chatting with The Huffington Post at GQ's The Gentlemen's Fund Awards in NYC on Thursday, the actor dropped a bomb that will make Marvel fans squeal with delight. Ruffalo, who, of course, plays Bruce Banner/Hulk in the "Avengers" movies, is set to appear in "Thor: Ragnarok" and might even give audiences the chance to see something they never thought possible: The separation of Banner and Hulk.

When asked what his role in "Thor: Ragnarok" entailed, Ruffalo joked, "I play Dr. Bruce Banner, and occasionally I turn into a big green, mean monster," before adding that there's so much he hopes to explore with the characters.

"I am excited to keep coming back to this role. I see a lot of space for it to grow," he told HuffPost. "I feel like there’s a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we’ll see the two of them in a scene together. That would be cool!"

Cool? That would be epic.

But wait, is this even possible? Aren't Banner and Hulk essentially the same person? "Yes and no," according to Doc Samson, the superhero and psychiatrist who successfully separated the two in The Incredible Hulk #315.

After realizing that Banner could make Hulk see hallucinations, Samson came to the conclusion that he was more of a conscious entity within Hulk, thus meaning they could actually function apart. According to Comic Vine, "Samson was able to convince the government to refinance the gamma base and pay for the procedure to separate them. Hulk was placed in a giant nutrient bath. The idea was to edit Banner out of Hulk's body while trying to make sure Banner's intellect went into the new body."

But, as you might've guessed, Hulk was left without a mind after Banner was removed from his body. The agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came to collect him to protect the world from his madness, but eventually Hulk escaped and went on a rampage, duh. Though Iron Man, Namor, Hercules and Wonder Man tried to stop him, they were unable to since there was no limit to Hulk's rage once Banner was no longer "present" to moderate and influence him. Eventually, Banner awoke from his coma following the procedure and formed a new group of Hulkbusters to take down Hulk -- and the two became one again. For safety reasons, of course. (SPOILER: Apparently Hulk easily separates himself from Banner in the final issue of the Fear Itself comic book series, too. Jeesh.)

So, will this scene make an appearance in an upcoming Marvel movie? One can only hope. As for Ruffalo, he plans on playing the duo until he feels he's no longer needed.

"I don’t want to overstay my welcome and I hope I never do," he said. "If I do, I’ll be the first one to bow out."

Well Ruffs, no bowing out until we actually get to see Banner and Hulk face-off. You don't want to see us get mad, now do you?
